    Easy setup, great so far!5
I had the older SB5120 and lately I have had to restart the router about 2 times a weeks when I was using massive bandwidth.

The new modem works great with my Comcast service here in Olympia, WA. Took 5 min on the phone for the Comcast Tech to authenticate the new router.

Fast! but doesnt play well with D-Link DIR-6553
When Comcast upgraded South Florida to DOCSIS 3.0 I decided to upgrade from a SB5100 to this for my home network. The initial installation went by okay, it takes about 5 min to find a signal from comcast (alot slower then the older 5xxx series surfboards) but when it finally connected I ran a speedtest and it was connecting at 32,000/4,000 which was amazing because I was only paying for 12,000/2,000 service. I was very pleasantly surprised having this modem hooked up directly to my pc.

And then I tried to hook up my router (d-link 655) to the modem... Upon my first attempt it would not establish a connection at all using the 1.11 firmware that I was using with my router. So I tried to see if it would work with newer firmware, I went to the D-Link website and downloaded the latest firmware version 1.21. That firmware allowed the router to establish a connection with my SB6120 but the signal would drop any time that one of the computers with a wireless adapter would try to download anything or stream stuff. My frustration made me think about using google to find an answer to my problem so I eventually found a link to d-links ftp server on a forum where they had their unreleased beta firmware. I installed the beta firmware 1.32NA which was the latest they had on June 15, 2009. The beta firmware has made the connection stable when using the internet connection on the computer connected to the router but it still drops the connection to the modem when other computers on the network (accessing the router wirelessly) try to use the same internet connection.

Its a wonderful modem if you have it directly plugged into your computer but if you want to share it with the other devices on your network it can be a real nightmare. I spent hours changing settings, upgrading firmware on my router, and connecting/disconnecting devices to try to fix the disconnection issues and never found a way to get around them while my router is hooked up to the modem. I guess I will have to go back to using my SB5100 for the time being, at least until I find a router that will work with this modem without issues.

I gave it a 3/5 because it is pretty expensive and the compatibility issues are a real headache but if you can manage to get it to work your speeds will see a vast improvement even on the lower speed tiers.

    Great5
just made a quick call to comcast to give them the modem's MAC address and now my internet is blazing. I'm on the comcast 22Mb download tier but speed test is showing an average of 35Mb down / 6Mb up. really fast.
