Product Description

The versatility of the sleek metallic gems of Airstream and other manufacturers has captured the imagination of a new generation. Paris Hilton used one to tour the country in The Simple Life. Designer Ralph Lauren owns four. Airstream Living explores these vehicles' many uses, from vacation travel to permanent residence, from home office to pool house, from on-set accommodation for movie stars to businesses like diners and stores.

Profiles of real-life owners reveal how they use their trailers to enhance their lifestyle, and vacationers will find advice on how to live well in their Airstreams. Inspirational photographs accompany advice on decorating interiors in styles that range from simple to opulent: retro chic, Ralph Lauren’s Adirondack and Western themes, a seaside look for coastal touring, and much more. Practical advice covers everything from buying your first Airstream, to care and cleaning tips, to solutions for storage, and a directory provides a thorough listing of suppliers and websites.

For anyone who owns an Airstream, or is thinking about purchasing one, this book is a must-read for living life to the fullest with a land yacht.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
The Airstream story is the Wally Byam story, for if his wife, Stella, hadn't "refused to go camping without a kitchen," the world might never have known the aerodynamic silver trailer that screams art moderne. Though a few introductory pages suffice for Byam's personal story, his influence is felt throughout this colorful appreciation of the perfectly retro home-on-wheels, and his innovations are lauded. Littlefield and Brown sought out restored, remodeled, and reconditioned examples of the various models of Airstream that appeared over the years and photographed them and their owners in scenic repose. Two constants are the owners' pride in their trailers and their prizes' shiny silver sheathing (the few departures from silver exteriors are noted in passing). There are even Airstream clubs that tour exotic locales throughout the world en masse! Littlefield helpfully cautions that "over 300 trailer companies" manufactured Airstream lookalikes. To sharpen the eye for spotting the classics, or just to enjoy Brown's colorful pictures of Airstreams on the hoof, this compendium is essential. Mike Tribby
