Product Description

The Wald 582 sets the standard for ingenuity when it comes to rear baskets. Mounting to the side of many rear racks, this nimble basket is the perfect size for packing 1-2 bags of groceries while balancing your load. When not in use, the base of the basket pivots up allowing the side walls to collapse. A simple clamp at the top keeps the basket out of your way when not in use.

Customer Reviews

Perfect for running errands5
This basket is reasonably sturdy and the quality of the gloss black finish is excellent. The folding design works well. It looks as if it would rattle like crazy when you're riding with it folded, but thanks to the tight retention hooks, it's quite solid. The basket's nicely sized for grocery bags.

The downside here is the same as with the other Wald products I've tried: The mounting hardware is appallingly out of date. It's English, not metric, and Wald doesn't use locknuts, only lockwashers attached to the screws (where they are useless). This is less of an issue here than it is for the other Wald products, because this one doesn't attach directly to your bike, only to the rack. Go out and buy some locknuts and you'll have no problems.

Alas, the mounting clamps are too small to fit the fatter tubing used on many modern racks. You'll probably have to use the Wald rack (or some other old-school, inexpensive rack). And that rack is well-built and sturdy, but its mounting hardware has to be adapted to fit current bikes.

Great Haul5
These things are wonderful! go ahead and buy a set of them, because they fold up so they dont get in the way like other rear mount baskets might, and they can hold quite a bit and still leave room for a bag or something to be put on top of the rack. Only problem I had was with the hardware that comes with it. I have a delta bike mount and had to go buy some longer screws and some zip ties to put them on, but that was worth it for these baskets, not every rack is the same afterall, LOVE EM! GET EM!

WAIT!!!! Must buy two!2
I ordered a wald rack (which I don't recommend) and picked the link on the page that suggested buying both the rack and the basket. I had been looking at wald baskets and the together price looked good so I clicked on it. The other baskets I had been looking at were SETS of two baskets-one for each side of the rack. This is just one. If you want your bike balanced you will need to order TWO of these baskets. Just FYI. Otherwise it doesn't seem bad, but I am confused why this one basket is not that much cheaper then the sets of TWO I was looking at.

So much for running to the grocery store this afternoon. :(

Hopefully this will save someone else from making the same mistake.
