Customer Reviews
Excellent value with some quirks
For the price I am able to play MP3/MP4/WMA files as well as movies converted using their AVI Converter software. The radio works, the touch screen is not the greatest but is very acceptable. I added a 2GB micro SD with a Mini SD converter and it recognized it immediately (cost me $16.00). I don't know if 4GB Micro SDHC is supported as I have not tried it.
This product has an external speaker which has an extremely low volume and is really useless but with headphones, I don't have any problem. Moving iPod files to this device may be a bit tricky due to apple's copy protection. I have not tried it.
The AVI software that comes with this product is a little quirky. You must select 320x240 format or the converted file will not play correctly (you get invalid file format). In addition (and this took me a while to figure out), I have to re-install the Chinese AVI software (the English AVI software flat out does not work) every time that I convert a DVD file (or list of files) to AVI format. If you don't do this, you lose the ability to select 320 x240 format. I always leave the quality as high.
I paid $65 for this device and you can get much worse MP3 players for a lot more money and I refuse to buy an apple. It is worth the price unless you think you are going to get an iPhone equivalent for $65. I do wish that it had a clock though.
Not an iTouch replacement
If anyone is curious about these mp3/4 players, google "rockchip" player. There are several companies in China that manufacture nearly identical products using the Rockchip hardware and modified firmware. Since this product has no model #, I can't be sure mine matches, but I'm fairly sure it's using the same/similar firmware (I have a Konaki model # CDT-4)
Anyone who buys this thinking they'll replace the iTouch or iPhone will be sorely disappointed. Apple charges more for their products because of innovation and craftmanship. There is no wireless card here. There is no clock. There is no tilt sensor.
Instead, this is exactly what it advertises - an affordable mp3 player with a digital camera, e-book reader, and video function. The video software is NOT easy to use (mine came with AVIconverter 4.0, which has problems with hanging but still works), but with the backlight on, the video is very crisp and clear. The digital camera is a bit fuzzy, as is the digital video, but since I don't have a digital camera, something is better than nothing. The mic is too sensitive to properly record sound, but I don't use it. The games packaged with the system were actually made for a cell phone, so they're unplayable with only 3 buttons, but the device opens any .rkp game file, so you can play other games. The FM tuner mostly works, but, again, I really don't use it, so it doesn't concern me.
Overall, this isn't a bad purchase. I paid $65 for a Dell 512MB MP3 player a few years back, and I'd say the $65 I paid for this was a definite improvement. Again, it doesn't compare to the iPod, but dollar for dollar, this is a pretty okay product.
UPDATE: The display on my player stopped working. The touchscreen still works, but it only displays a gray background. To get it replaced, I would have to send the product back to China. If you decide to get this player, remember that it's mostly made of plastic, and that they're very sensitive. Buy a metal case for the product, and take careful care of it to make sure yours lasts for more than 8 months.
Problem with playing video
I have seem many people that have problem with playing video files on this perticular player. The English version of the converting software on the CD is version 2.0. For some of the videos you want to convert, you will need version 3.0.
We are the seller (Pro_eb) that is selling the same product on this page and we would like to help everybody out, regardless where you bought from.
IF you contact us via the "Contact sell" option on the page, we will send you a newer version to convert videos. It will work well.
