plantronics 520 review
good talk and standby times, not the most comfortable (for me) for long periods of time. Headset sits firmly in the ear and I can move or work normally. Device pairs and reconnects automaticly when I leave the headset (older BT headsets lose pairing if they drop a connetction). A few people have complained about the audio quality when I call them, and other have said there is no problem. This could be form network call quality, or some type of interferrence.
overall, this is a good headset and worth the money.
the ONLY thing I dis like is the plantronics type power connector. they should go to a mini USB charger and port. that way we can use the mini usb devices we already have to charge the phone on the road.
The carbon fiber peice is pretty cool looking too.
Finally, a match for me
The Jabra 5010 had me convinced that there was a deformity in my ear. Not only could I not hear anything coming out of the headset, its extremely loose fit would pull away from my face and flap like an extra mat of hair in the breeze. It was fairly useless, but I figured at $39.99, I got what I paid for.
The Jabra 5010 was replacing another Jabra that was one of those huge monkeys that wraps around your ear and implants itself like the worms from the Wrath of Khan.
Both of these Jabra headsets left me with two requirements for the next headset: it couldn't implant itself too deeply into my ear, but it needed to fit my obvious deformity. I also needed it to have a decent volume, so I guess there are three requirements.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have found bliss in the Plantronics 520. It works very well with my iPhone 1 and Blackberry 8830... the volume is perfect. The fit is very well-engineered. It has an over the ear hook that is comfortable and feels quite invisible, but the real magic happens with the ear bud that just slightly invades your ear enough to lodge itself into place and pour sound onto your eardrum. This fit is so perfect that for the first time I'm able to wear a headset and not feel like I have a bizarrity on my head that is keeping me from hearing an in-person conversation.
Well done, Plantronics - I applaud you. You now own three elements of my workday: a phone headset, a Skype headset and a bluetooth headset. All three are well engineered and work beautifully. Bravo. I thought Jabra was the king of the hill (because that's what I had heard from just about everyone) but now I know that when it comes to fit, Plantronics has it down to a science.
Oh yeah... and at around $40, how can you go wrong? Well, you could buy a Jabra 5010 with that $40... that's how you can go wrong ;)
Not impressed
My Blackberry cannot pick up the requests I make with this bluetooth, once in a while its ok, I have tried different settings but it doesnt make any difference. I received a call but after pressing the button that didnt work. Just too many problems or maybe its me
