Product Description

inda Crowsey The author of our bestselling Madame Alexander Collector's Dolls Price Guide and Madame Alexander Store Exclusives & Limited Editions has produced yet another guide to Madame Alexander dolls, this one the most comprehensive yet. Concentrating on Cissy, Lissy, Cissette, Alexander-Kins, Little Genius, and Elise, this book continues the theme of the late Patricia Smith's Encyclopedia of Madame Alexander Dolls, 1965 - 1990, which was a great seller for many years. This encyclopedia spans the years 1948 through 1965, which covers the vintage hard plastic dolls of the golden era of Madame Alexander dolls. Most of the highest valued dolls today were made during this period. The dolls from this era consistently win top honors in competition at the national conventions of the Madame Alexander Doll Club. Many of the dolls that began in this period (Cissy, Wendy, and Cissette) are the center of the Madame Alexander line today, after a time span of almost 50 years. You won't want to miss this exhaustive resource on the dolls made by the Madame Alexander Doll Company.

Alexander Reference Book5
This encyclopedia is an excellent reference book for those starting to collect Madame Alexander dolls. It has good, clear photos and descriptions. Well worth the price

Collector's Encyclopedia of Madame Alexander Dolls 1948-1965 by Linda Crowsey5
This is a very good identification and reference book for Madame Alexander dolls produced from 1948 - 1965. There are many color photos and good identification. I especially like the section of Cissy dolls which I am most interested in.

Incomplete & No Detail1
This book was a big disappointment. Our doll museum needs a complete reference on vintage Madame Alexander dolls for our doll appraisal days and this book will not help. Both of the tagged outfits (Cissy and Cissette)that I own and hoped to identify were not present in the book with no reason for the omission. What else is missing?

There are no pictures of the markings on the dolls or the back of the hairstyle (would be especially helpful for restoration). No close ups or descriptions of accessories like shoes, eye glasses etc. I have no idea what extras may be available for these dolls so would not be able to identify them unless they are with a doll.

Some of the pictures are blurry and the accessories are not recognizable. I do not know much about these dolls and this book will not help me learn about the details. This author has written a lot of books on Madame Alexander dolls and that seems to have thinned out the information so that you must buy all of the books for any detail. The pricing is strictly for perfect, mint dolls so no idea of the value of most dolls that we will see at our appraisals.

If you are looking for a complete and useful reference to Madame Alexander this in not the book for you. Hopefully someone will write one complete reference to these great dolls.
