Product Description

Drinking Bird A rather dumb looking 6" bird with a felt covered head and has plastic feet. Worse, he cannot get his fill of water. You buy the drinks. Fluid inside condenses from the evaporative cooling of the water off the bird's beak, making it top heavy and dunking it back into the water. The condensate rejoins the liquid pool in the bird's bulb, and he tips up again. Process continues indefinitely. It works, but it's not any more than moderately well made, and not any more than moderately priced. WARNING! The fluid and dye inside the bird can permanently stain, and the bird's glass body can easily be broken. Children are fascinated by the bobbing bird, and the educational possibilities are great. But they should watch it, not fondle it!!

Customer Reviews

Flew the Coop4
This bird does not stop drinking. I recommended he talk to someone about his problem, but all I got was the glazed over look in his eyes. With his goofy hat and tacky tail feather, he finds his way to any available drink and dips his head right in, regardless of who he's hurting in the process.

What's not to like.5
They say you can't go back, but with these you can. They are just as I remember them when I got one at the Boston Science Museum as a kid.

Very Entertaining....Needs a little adjusting to work continuously4
The Drinking Bird is made of glass....glad we got two as my 11-year old dropped and shattered Bird #1!! After adjusting properly, the bird drank continuously for HOURS until I physically stopped it....

What worked??
1. Used a glass 4" tall..filled to the brim with water
2. Soaked the Bird's Head completely with water
3. Adjusted the metal collar height (gently as glass is fragile!)
4. Most importantly....I slightly bent the metal "wings" (that rest on the plastic "legs") on the metal collar (gently) to position the bird's distance from the glass (plastic "feet"/base keeps it a minimum distance from the glass of water.

Once he starts drinking, it keeps on going!!
