Customer Reviews
I Love Webkinz
I happen to love Webkinz. There are a lot of technical problems but NOT on Webkinz side. It depends on the type of computer you have. You must have a computer that can handle Java Script (most can but some older computer can't comprehend it). Sometimes if you are trying to access the sit through AOL you may not be able because AOL has a hard time handling the Java Script as well. I normally access it through Internet Explorer and have no trouble at all.
The site is a lot of fun. There are numerous games ranging from puzzles to cards to basbeall. There's secret recipes that children can make using there stove. Children get to express themselves by decorating their room for the pet. You can go shopping and go hunting for gems. There is so much to do and it never gets old.
I highly suggest buything this for someone who knows how to use the computer. I would not suggest this gift to a 5 year old but someone around the ages of 9-13 because the site is slightly hard to navigate (you get used to it) and the games are challenging.
The Stuffed Animal that Comes with Screen Time
Webkinz stuffed animals come with a code that allows the user to register the "pet" on a website. Your child can name the pet, decide it's gender, and then log on to play with it. So, you are not just buying the stuffed animal, you are also buying access to a website that gives you virtual money to buy pet supplies and virtual locations in which you can feed, groom, and entertain your pet. I am assuming while you do this the "real" stuffed animal sits alone in another room. The virtual animal has a meter that lets you know how happy and well-fed it is. If you neglect it, it will suffer (or at least become less happy).
I suppose some could argue this is a good way to teach children about the responsibility of pets or to let them feel as if they have a real pet (but without the mess).
Consumers who object to excess use of video games and tv, probably should opt for a traditional stuffed animal that does not come with a virtual counterpart that requires the use of a computer.
Webkinz Polar Bear - Another Great Webkinz
If someone in your circle of family or friends is hooked by the Webkinz craze, then add another nice creature to your list of internet-linked plush toys. I think the overall quality and price structure of the Webkinz creatures is a good deal ... better than I remember for the Beanie Babies rush, plus you get some internet-associated interactions.
