Customer Reviews
Love this chair!
I don't get all this complaining about cleaning the chair. I have a 9 month old self-feeder who drops and smears stuff all the time and I just haven't had any issues with cleaning. I'm a working mom and don't have tons of time, so maybe I'm just less precise about cleaning than other moms...I certainly don't use a toothbrush or qtip to clean every single crevice and I don't care if there are a few stray crumbs between the slats for a few days until I get around to brushing them out. I think it's easy to brush away crumbs from the pad and wood and then just use a wet paper towel to get the sticky parts. And even if food gets on the pad--who cares? Wipe it off and move on with your life. I'd rather get down on the floor with my cute baby and play with blocks than spend a lot of time worrying about crumbs. I wash the pad maybe once every 2-3 weeks and that's been fine. The fabric is such that it doesn't show dirt too readily. We put the tray insert into the dishwasher every night and then just clean off the sides of the tray and chair with 409 it's no big deal.
The tiny amount of effort is worth it for a sturdy and stylish chair that fits our decor and doesn't take up very much space in our small dining room. The only down side is that our large and tall 9 month old doesn't sit up very high in it compared to some smaller plastic & vinyl chairs BUT the upside of this is that we know a large and tall 2.5 year old who still uses her chair (same design, earlier color/style). I definitely recommend this chair for families living in small and stylish spaces and who don't have to have every inch of the house 100% spotless.
Pretty , but not the best
I don't like to write bad reviews but I want to save someone else the time and money. I loved the way this high chair looked. So we got it. It is pretty but it is hard to clean, hard to buckle and hard to get my baby into. There are allot of crevices to get food out of. The wooden slats, the notches the tray locks into and under the t-bar. The strap is very hard to get a squirming baby restrained into. One feeding and the Fabric cover is soiled and needs to be cleaned, they recommend air drying it, so the cover is only good for breakfast. Without the cover my baby slides right down and I have to constantly straighten her up. I have a nice sized kitchen and it does take quite a bit of room. It is bulky which means it is sturdy but makes it hard to move if you need to. The T-bar is nice for snack time but it is hard to cram my one year old into. The tray is a little high so it is at my baby's arm pit area. She is not that short either. The restraint is a loose t-shaped nylon strap, which she sits on half the time and I have to fish under her but to find. My friend recommended the Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster Seat which is portable, straps onto ANY chair and is great for eating out and traveling. I ended up getting two (one for the inlaws and one for home) and wish I would have listened and got the Healthy Care as my main high chair first. Save your money and energy on another chair.
Attractive classic high chair
If you would rather not have one of those plastic technicolor abominations for a high chair, this is a good option. True, you may not be able to just hose the thing down after every meal, but with a little daily effort it is possible to keep it reasonably clean, if not immaculate. More thorough weekly cleanings are a good idea, and take perhaps all of five minutes. Likewise, the back does not fold down like the modern chairs to ease the insertion of a resistant toddler, but that has not been much of an issue for us either. Seems to me that people have been putting children into highchairs of this basic design for at least several hundred years, so it surely must be possible. Our daughter is not a wriggler and climber, so we haven't had to use the belt system much, but it certainly seems adequate. We don't leave her unattended in the chair anyway. In sum, if you want a chair that might actually be worth keeping around for another 25 years to give to your children for your grandchildren, this is a fine piece of quality furniture. If you want all the plastic bells and whistles on something that will almost certainly end up in a landfill in five years, this is obviously not the chair for you!.
