Average customer review:Product Description
As awareness of Asperger Syndrome (AS) grows, it becomes increasingly important that all professionals have a familiarity with and understanding of the condition. However, for teachers, who have minimal spare time, it is difficult to access the details they need for working with AS children without wading through extensive books aimed at parents and professionals. Asperger Syndrome What Teachers Need to Know bridges this gap and is the ideal starting point for teachers wishing to learn about Asperger Syndrome and how best to work with and get the most from a child with an ASD. Providing a summary of currently available information on AS and covering all the key issues that will concern teachers (e.g. social skills, homework, playground behavior, assisting with study), Matt Winter, a teacher himself, imparts tips and practical ideas that he has found successful and invaluable for anyone working in a school environment.

Review
'The book is very readable and manages to fit a lot of information into a small space. The author's experience as a primary school teacher means that the suggestions made are ones that can be easily and practically applied in a classroom, with or without additional support.'-Jennie Webster Peach Case Manager

Terrific Introduction to or Review of Asperger's for Anyone
Of the 100+ books I have read on topics related to Asperger's, this easy-and-quick-to-read book is tops. We are going to buy copies for all of our son's teachers and some of our family.
The author explains Asperger's characteristics so simply and clearly, without being superficial at all. His observations indicate a deep understanding of the behaviors and challenges of children with Asperger's in (and out) of the classroom. There are many practical ideas and suggestions, and the book is so easy to read and refer to, busy teachers can find what they need quickly.
Another reason that this book has become my new "favorite book on Asperger's" is because from the second or third page, the author shows positive characteristics of children with Asperger's. These are much easier to see if you feel a genuine fondness for and understanding of Asperger's children, and the author's warmth reads very genuine. By presenting the positive side of some Asperger characteristics that are traditional viewed as negatives, the author shows us how critical perspective is to viewing a situation.
Highly recommended for teachers, family, or anyone interested in Asperger's.
Fantastic First Step
I am a teacher and like most teachers have little time on my hands. This book provided an excellent introduction to Asperger Syndrome for me. It was small enough to be manageable and easily read, yet large enough to contain loads of practical suggestions.
The author writes in a very concise manner getting straight down to business rather than dragging out subjects just to fill the page. He also manages to really "get inside" the head of a child with Asperger Syndrome and allow the reader to see where the child is coming from.
I keep this book in my top draw so I can flick through and refer to it regularly. I highly recommend it as a great starting point for any teacher or educator. In fact, it is a great first resource for any person who will be spending time looking after a child with Asperger Syndrome. Buy it for yourself or give it out to those who need to know more.
Great practical ideas without all the complex medical terms
I recently purchased this book and it is a wonderful recource. It explains all of the medical terms that come with an AS diagnosis. Very easy to understand and great ideas. It can be read in a short amount of time and is not only great for teachers but for parents and family members wishing to learn more about AS and how to help an AS person better understand social situations. I highly recommend this book!
