Customer Reviews
Good attic ladder, but not outstanding
This is for the ten foot model. After install, ladder functions fine. Need some basic wood skills to install. Manufacturer's rough opening at 22 1/2 inches was wrong as ladder came as 21 3/4 wide at one end to a maximum of 22 inches at the other, definitely not square. The rough 54 inches was right on. Had to shim all of one side to fill in gap and fit it snug to ceiling joist. The rating of 350 lbs. is a bit optimistic in my opinion, and will not risk testing it. The light weight of aluminum is easy for my wife. The pull down cord was inadequate and short. Custom made a heavy and long replacement with a pull handle to improve the grip. Though not ready to stall out-of-the-box, a good ladder for price, not great ladder. Would recommend.
Definite improvement over my old wooden ladder
I purchased this ladder to replace the wooden one my contractor installed when my home was built about six years ago. It should have been replaced earlier.
This one is lighter and seems much sturdier than the original. It arrived quickly and in good condition. The instructions were clear. A couple of bolts were missing from the package which I supplied myself. Other than that installation was fairly simple and straightforward. The key is to make sure it's squared up in the hole prior to permanently fastening it to the framing. I substituted screws for the nails supplied.
My ceiling height was 10'2"... 2" higher than the maximum stated in the specs. The ladder was able to accommodate the extra height with no problem. I did add an extra bolt to each leg base (2 bolts in each) to insure its stability.
The quality of the ladder is not great but is commensurate with the price. It is definitely sturdier than the wooden model previously installed.
TOTAL JUNK!!! Go with Werner 2210
This arrived in terrible condition, box was in tatters and the "included" hardware, hanging straps, and instructions were gone. Box was nowhere near square, assembled with small corner braces and 1/2" wood screws. Frame twisted when I lifted it from box, and my deck contractor, who was helping me at the time, and I just laughed, taped the box back together, and called a local company (National Ladder) to order a REAL attic ladder. The 2210 by Werner is about $80 more, but worth every penny. Funny thing, the company is Louisville Ladder, but the box was proudly displaying Made in Mexico everywhere!
