About Us
WAS hosts free Public Astronomy Nights every Wednesday and Thursday evening (weather
permitting) from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Rolnick Observatory at 182 Bayberry Lane in Westport.
Trained volunteers offer
guided tours of the night sky through the Society’s telescopes at no charge. Visitors may view the Moon, planets, stars, nebula
and galaxies through the massive 25 inch Obsession Dobsonian – the largest telescope available for public use in the state of
Connecticut – or through WAS’s 12 ½ inch computerized Newtonian housed under the observatory dome.
The Observatory grounds and telescopes are available for youth group events, scout groups, birthdays, anniversaries and
other public events catering to students of all ages. Members are also available for classroom visits and demonstrations.
Directions to the Observatory and a schedule of programs sponsored by the Westport Astronomical Society may be found at
www.was-ct.org or by calling the Rolnick Observatory at (203) 227-0925.
