For the longest time, I had people telling me I HAD to read this book. I finally got around to it, and I guess everybody was right. It is such a rich and involving story surrounding complex personalities that just happen to wear costumes. I guess I'm one of those "You've got to read this" people now.

After I finished the Astonishing X-Men series, I thought that would be the best X-Men series I would read for a long time. It didn't even last a year. Now I'll grant you there are a LOT of older series I haven't gotten to yet, but this is the best X-Men story I have ever read! The events started in the House of M lead to the birth of the mutant's last hope and the fight to control it.

ONGOING. The reintroduction of Thor is given the A treatment with a great story. As someone who never really read Thor before, I was able to jump right in and will certainly be following Thor now.

SERIES GOES VOL. 1-4 Joss Whedon is the best thing to happen to science-fiction in the past decade and this series is no exception. It's perfect for someone like me as an old X-Men fan ready to start reading again.

A short story featuring the two most powerful characters in the DC universe and their first encounter. While the novel is very short, it quickly became one of my favorites.

ONGOING. HAVE READ VOL. 1-7 While die-hard Marvel fans greet this one with a lukewarm reception, I have really gotten into this series. It is loaded with action and is an Avengers lineup with an all-star roster that rivals DC's Justice League. Series suffers after Civil War.

ONGOING. HAVE READ VOL. 1-2 Thinking this was aimed at young teens, I had put off reading this one. Boy, what an underestimation! This was easily one of the most fun reads I had recently, along with one of my new favorite origin stories.

The latest incarnation of the JSA mixes the old with the new. As someone who always looked at the JSA as the B-team, I stood corrected upon finishing this great story.

Even though I knew very little about the events leading up to this book, this particular team of X-Men, or the history of the Shi'ar, I couldn't put this book down.

A few years ago, the guys at Marvel decided to trade in decades of mystery to attempt to do justice to the unknown story of Wolverine's beginning, risking destroying the mystique surrounding their star character. Did they destroy the mystique? Yes. Was it a great story? Yes. Was it worth it? Who knows. It didn't ruin my interest in Wolverine, so maybe it was.

ONGOING. HAVE READ VOL. 1-2 The Civil War divided the Marvel universe and the Avengers. While the New Avengers continued on underground, the Mighty Avengers became the sanctioned Avengers team - with Iron Man, no less. While I like this title more than the latest New Avengers, both suffer from the absence of Captain America.

ONGOING. HAVE READ VOL. 1-2 The event that rocked the Marvel Universe. I suppose the title gives away the plot, but the story holds a lot of surprises, and a NEW Captain America with a familiar face.

Widely considered one of the 3 greatest Batman stories, this is very different in feel from all others. I think I respect this book more than I enjoy it, which isn't really a bad thing.

SERIES GOES VOL. 1-2 The beginning of the Captain America run that would eventually lead to the death of Captain America. The story also introduces the Winter Soldier. Needless to say, it was great.

The recent event series that divided the entire Marvel Universe primarily features Captain America and Iron Man, but involves all characters. Also spawned many novels featuring the Marvel characters in their own series that are worth checking out.

A great retelling of the Man of Steel's origin. It covers the period after his boyhood years, but just before he takes up the mantle of Superman.

While this one is almost specifically for fans of the TV show Firefly and the movie Serenity, as a lover of both, I thought this was a great story, and a perfect bridge between the two.

A follow-up of sorts to Kingdom Come, with an original Justice League storyline and the incomparable artwork of Alex Ross. Story's pretty good, artwork is amazing.

ONGOING. HAVE READ VOL. 1-5 Wolverine continues his quest to uncover his past and right some of his wrongs. Sometimes he is looking for forgiveness, other times, it's revenge. A good series.

The Event comic a couple of years ago that changed the entire Marvel Universe. Not the best X-Men story out there, but definitely a must-read as it affects several Marvel titles.
