Product Description

Must we run at a pace between maddening and insane to prove we're among the faithful? Is this really how the Prince of Peace would have us live? In this best-selling, classic work, Swindoll answers with a resounding, "No!" showing how Christians can break free from exhausting, performance-based faith. He calls us back to the simplicity of the Sermon on the Mount.

Customer Reviews

One of the best books I've ever read.5
I picked up this book not long after I made the decision to step out of the rat race for the rest of my life, to return to the way I once lived, namely simple. I've listened to Swindoll for years and he has, hands down, been the most influential man in my life so understand that I'm already biased strongly in his favor.

I've been through a lot of Chuck's studies and books. I think this was the book that best captured Swindoll's perspective on life and the Christian faith. It was the book that cemented my desire that God build me into the kind of man Swindoll is.

This is one book that I think every believer ought to read. It reminds the reader that faith really is a simple matter. After five years of seminary, I fully understand man's propensity for making faith into something way more complicated than God intended.

Reading Simple Faith was like taking a spiritual bath. It reminded me the value of simplicity, child-like simplicity in my relationship with Christ. It made me feel like a kid again. No baggage, no complicated arguments, just faith.

I've read this book several times since it was first published and I'll no doubt read it again. Simply put, this book still holds the #1 or #2 spot on my all-time list of most helpful books ever read, including all of my books for seminary.

I can't give this book a high enough recommendation. If you have a yearning to step out of the rat race and begin the journey back to a simple life of simple faith, this book is a great place to begin that journey.

Get back to the basics!5
New or old, Christians tend to think they must out-do, over-perform, out-tithe, out-memorize, over-volunteer the next Christian in order to prove how faithful they are. That's not what faith or Christianity is about! This book gets you back to the basics, back to the Sermon on the Mount, back to what Jesus said... not what the neighbor's said. If you're feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, or scared of the Christian faith, this is a wonderful book because it tells you what is the basics, what is required, what is called for by Jesus, so you can either leave the rest behind, or understand that you're doing it to (and for) yourself.

This Book Saved Me From a Lifetime of Distorted Mormon Faith5
I was an active Mormon for 48 years. A Christian friend gave me this book and my life will never be the same. Thank God!!! Swindoll breaks down all of the performance-based, legalistic, earn-your-way-to-heaven creed of Mormonism (although not directed at Mormons) and explains faith in God in terms that even a child can understand. This is one of the first books that a Christian should give to a Mormon friend.
