Sashiko is a traditional and distinctive form of embroidery characterized by running stitches ("little stabs") typically in white thread on indigo-blue fabric. Originally used by Japanese farmers to quilt together several layers of fabric for warmth and durability, sashiko patterns are increasingly being adapted as decorative elements in contemporary designs and needlecraft projects.
Sashiko Style presents 70 different patterns of three types: linear, curvy and single-stitch ("hitome zashi") patterns. Full-color photos showcase the many different ways in which the patterns can be used to make beautiful and useful items such as napkins, tablecloths, placemats and runners; tote bags; pillows; curtains and wall hangings. The book introduces basic skills that even beginners can master and includes detailed equipment lists with photos, as well as step-by-step instructions for pattern drafting. A special feature of Sashiko Style is the handy, pullout pattern template insert.

Customer Reviews
Patterns you'll really use
This book contains a wider range of Sashiko patterns than I have found anywhere. Not content with diamonds and square? You'll love the sinewy mist and the running water. Easy to use; historic, yet contemporary.
Fabulous
I have done some sashiko and wanted more inspiration for using it with different colors and on different things. This book is perfect for that. It got my creative juices flowing again and I am now working on several new projects.
Sashiko Style
Great book for using sashiko designs in everyday household items. Many would make fast and easy gifts.
