A wonderful and very useful catalog of whiskies on the market with very helpful, detailed and consistent ratings
I am a whiskey lover with about 7 years of experience in whiskey tasting. I visited specialty whiskey boutiques in many countries of the world and tasted whiskies in many bars and restaurants where their selection gave me the opportunity to sample a new whiskey. Jim Murray's books on whiskey always provided me with a helpful guidance in making my choices in buying whiskey and were very helpful in making my judgment about its quality and learning to understand its taste. My whiskey journey I started with his books in PRION's "Classic ..." series. Afterwards, I purchased his "The Complete Guide to Whisky" and I started to take this small pocket book with me every time I planned to buy whiskey in stores during my journeys to a liquor store in my country or abroad. In 2004 I bought my first Jim Murray's "Whiskey Bible" and it replaced my "Complete Guide". I found the "Whiskey Bible" so helpful, comprehensive and informative that I decided to by the subsequent editions with a gap of one year. The 2006's edition (3rd) is more informative than the 2004's edition (1st), since it includes more entries and new whiskies that went to the market in the period between 2004 and 2006. I find it very convenient that the "Whiskey Bible" in its editions is incremental and provides new information in addition to the information contained by previous editions, since it is enough to take with me only one book (the latest edition) and I do not have to remember what was in previous editions.
To sum the review, I find every edition of Jim Murray's "Whiskey Bible" very informative, very concise, very consistent and detailed in its ratings of different whiskies. Especially, I love Jim's tasting notes. They are very detailed and concise; they really help to understand the nature of the whisky that they describe.
I think the "Whiskey Bible" will be as useful for an experienced whiskey connoisseur as for a newcomer to the world of whiskey. It reviews whiskies from all over the world. Jim Murray has done a great job!

extensive coverage
The book provides extensive coverage of the single malt whisky world and then some.
Very enjoyable. The only problem is that the print is very small. Overall, a worthwhile purchase.

Great Reference
The only really all inclusive tasting and rating reference on all forms of commercially available whisk(e)y ,Scotch,Irish,American,Japanese,etc.,
Costs less than 1/2 the cost of the average bottle of whisk(e)y and can save you from many a bad choice out there.With the increasing price hikes in Whisk(e)y this book at least is a good investment.The notes are sometimes terse but given the sheer number of whiskies sampled this is a necessary evil if you want something you can actually carry around to the store and use.
