Customer Reviews
Wow!
Ms Lindley's book was entertaining and an easy read, but, more importantly, it was concrete and useful. I finished it this morning and went out this afternoon and practiced some the concepts she describes: focus, breathing, and confidence. I saw the effect on my riding and my horse's movement. Most exciting was going to the pasture, visualizing my horse coming to me to be haltered; and she did! I worked on my breathing and visualizing easy transitions and my mare was soft and collected. My trainer said I looked the most relaxed and balanced she's ever seen me. She tells a good story in the same tradition of Mark Rashid and also connected some of the dots for me from what he writes about. I'm looking forward to her next book! She and Mark can't write them fast enough for me!
Very useful & extremely modest
If you haven't worked with Kathleen Lindley this modestly written book may not tip you off to her notable skills as a clinician. However, it may well prompt you to seek her out! A quick and compelling read that clearly encapsulates core concepts of Mark Rashid's unique work. As a coach of Mary Wanless's rider techniques I find this approach unbeatable for horse trainers and owners. Not just a strategy for working with horses...a guide to compassionate living!
Horses as Teachers
I have read all Mark Rashid's books, and like his philosophy of horses. IN THE COMPANY OF HORSES implements Mark's philosophy as Kathleen Lindley writes about the year she spent as Mark's assistant. She gleans a great deal about how she should live; basically she learned a lot about how to live from her dealings with horses, and with Mark. Mark's calm, patient handling of adverse conditions, and the horses' understanding of keeping things simple impressed Ms. Lindley and she passes that on to her readers. Even if I did not live around and love horses, this book would speak to me on how to live my life. The book is not long in size, but long in meaning.
