Gorgeously atmospheric and spooky...
For the first time in 40 years, Henry Mancini's score to the popular thriller "Wait Until Dark" has finally been made available (on this, the 156th soundtrack release by the incomparable Film Score Monthly). Aside from a 45rpm release of the main theme b/w "Theme For Three" released by RCA in 1967, Mancini-admirers are at last getting the full treatment of his complete and deliciously spooky score for the Audrey Hepburn/Alan Arkin classic, with the addition of some bonus tracks, the long version of the theme with Sue Raney's vocal, informative liner notes and great photos from the film. A+
Buy It While You Can!
40 years later, Henry Mancini's score for Wait Until Dark is finally on CD! I'd never realized it had never been released when the movie came out in 1967. This score is one of Hank's very best and his 4th and last collaboration with actress Audrey Hepburn (they had a great run and he had some of his biggest sucesses with her movies: Breakfast at Tiffanys; Charade; Two For the Road). His score, along with Hepburn's performance was what made Wait Until Dark really great (the movie itself has dated somewhat, but the final half hr. is still one of the most suspenseful sequences ever filmed!) Dont expect Breakfast at Tiffanys here. This mostly atonal score is creepy and eerie and fits the movie perfectly. If you've seen the movie, it'll bring it all back to you (great for playing in the dark!) If not, what are you waiting for? See the movie and buy the score! Great liner notes and packaging too. Screen Archives has done a limited pressing of this, so dont wait till it sells out and you have to pay high prices for it elsewhere!
