Nintendo certainly has added a quirky spin on the old English game with Mario Tennis. With 16 classic Nintendo characters on hand, ranging from Bowser to Baby Mario, the crux of the game is the standard game of tennis, with its break points, deuces, and double faults, but also with the added bonus of power-ups and special moves.
The game revolves around the individual players, and, as in other Mario adventures, the characters all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Bowser is great for the sheer strength and his powerful smashes, while other characters survive on speed and agility, rather like in Mario Kart or Mario Golf.
With Exhibition, Tournament, and Multiplayer modes, the game does have a number of options to keep you busy. The chance to play with up to three other players makes this game great to play with your friends.
With this game, Nintendo has done to tennis what it did to kart racing and golf, by producing a fun spin on what's not usually the most fun in computer games. This is how tennis should be: super smashes, special combos, and Mario running around in circles. --Stuart Miles
From Parents' Choice®
Nintendo has incorporated characters from the Super Mario Brothers series into a tennis simulation game for up to 4 players. Each player manipulates a selected character from the 13 in the series. There are multiple levels of difficulty. Players need to learn the types of strategies used in traditional tennis; each can choose how to hit the ball over the net by selecting from a wide range of moves, some of which may be unique to the character each has chosen. Lobs, smashes, and cross-court shots are among the options.
Mario Tennis 64 taps the controlled challenge of real-life tennis, and intertwines light-hearted graphics with good game play. A 2000 Parents' Choice® Approved winner.

FUN!
At first, I was really skeptical about this game after playing Virtua Tennis for Dreamcast. That game was great. The graphics and simple gameplay were really fun. However, I must say that Mario Tennis blew me away. Not only are the 2 button controls easy for all skill levels to master, the gameplay is very simple. It is one of the easiest games for beginners to get into and start having fun. The game is probably best for 4 players. It makes a great party game. The replay value is really good. Some games, once you've beat it, it isn't fun to play again. However, there are so many different modes and different level computers that even the best player can still play and lose. Try the Intense setting of computer players, and they will absolutely dominate. I would recommend this game to anyone, even non-tennis fans, because it is very fun and easy to get into. The graphics are gorgeous, and everything you can hope for out of the Nintendo 64. Gameplay is well paced, and the framerate is very fluid. No choppy action like in other games...cough...Perfect Dark...cough...So with that said, I would say buy this game. If you have other siblings who play with you, this game is an awesome multiplayer game.
Game, Set, Mario!
First of all I would like to state that Daisy is NOT new. She was in the Mario brothers movie before Princess Toadstool had a first name, and yes she was more attracted to Luigi. Anyway I am a big fan of Mario, which has caused many late, low-graded projects for school from my unstoppable playing since I first got a game my dad brought from somewhere, Donkey Kong. It's been around 10 years since I first saw a little LCD Mario and I still love him, and Mario Tennis is no exception. Mario Tennis is surprisingly easy to learn yet hard to win at higher levels, minute to learn lifetime to master kinda thing. If you play tennis like me (it's the only sport I can play without worrying about my attrified muscles from 10 years of video games) then it is even better, try to pick a player who fits your playing stlye I like Boo because I don't hit hard, but it's fun to make your opponent run around the court because you have such great control over the ball. Bowser's arena is pretty fun with the items and the tipping. The play control is very nice, the best possible without losing an easy-to-learn interface. Somethings however take time to learn such as controlling Boo's drifting, or timing for power shots. So far time has proven that Mario has two favorite avtivities, whomping King Bowser Koopa, or unwinding by playing him in golf or tennis, and despite Bowser's constant efforts to kill Mario he still needs to unwind too in a friendly game of tennis, though you can gaurantee he'll spit in your water bottle if he loses. Many characters are back includin the Shy Guy and parratrooper. This game is incredible, buy it now! If you don't have the cash, start asking for some extra chores for a bit. You don't want to wait for this honey of a game!
One Of The Best Games Of The Year!
HI, My name is Sean and I work at [a] Best Buy ... . We recently got this game in stock in order that our customers could play it before it is released. I have played Mario Tennis numerous times and I absolutely love it. It is a great game and a lot of fun. There are many characters to choose from and different types of levels. All in all, this has to be one of the best games we have gotten in this year!
