The Tan Canary - A "Big Easy" Icon5
Considered by many to be the most important quality soul singer to hail from New Orleans, never did Johnny Adams give a bad performance - or even a mediocre one.

With just one exception [1978's After All The Good Is Gone - # 75 R&B for the Ariola America label], on this CD you get his other five charted hits as well as the flipsides for three of them.

Listening to him, you will hear a powerful, soulfully smooth voice that easily soars above the full orchestrations and choruses on classics like A Losing Battle [# 27 R&B in 1962 for the Ric label], Release Me [the old Country standard which he took to # 34 R&B/# 82 Billboard Hot 100 in 1969 b/w You Make A New Man Out Of Me], Reconsider Me [his top hit at # 8 R&B and # 28 Hot 100 in the summer of 1969 b/w If I Could See You One More Time], I Can't Be All Bad [# 45 R&B/# 89 Hot 100 late in 1969 b/w In A Moment Of Weakness] and I Won't Cry [# 41 R&B in 1970 - all recorded for SSS Int'l].

Highly recommended. And if you can find his Come On - recorded in 1960 for Ric - by all means get it. Although uncharted, it has to go down as one of his all-time best performances.

Sadly, Johnny passed away after battling cancer at the age of 66 on September 14, 1998.
