WMF Easy Pour hand blown glass wine decanter. Decanting is the process of pouring wine from a bottle into a carafe and is recommended for red wines. The main reason for this is to separate the clear wine from the deposit at the bottom of the bottle (influencing the quality of the wine). During the transfer the wine comes into contact with oxygen and can develop its bouquet better.

Amazon.com Review
Made of lead-free glass, this classic decanter holds one 750-milliliter bottle of wine. While the most common use of a decanter is to prevent sediment in an aged red wine from spoiling the wine's clarity and brilliance, some authorities also recommend decanting young red wines to give them the opportunity to bloom. In either case, this decanter brings elegance to the dinner table. And because it has an indented well in the bottom, steady, careful pouring is possible, as fingers fit securely into the well while the thumb grips atop the decanter's flared base. Standing 9 inches high on a 9-inch-diameter base, the decanter serves beautifully as a vase when it's not being used for wine. --Fred Brack
Customer Reviews
Good looking, maximum aeration, great price!
This is a good looking decanter, and the punt at the bottom makes it unusual. One 750 ml bottle reaches about the widest portion of the decanter, so this decanter provides maximum aeration. Finally, the price is great! Can't find anything nearly as nice for even close to the price. While this is not crystal -- and if you leave your wine or port in the decanter for very long, you should not use lead crystal, as the lead can leach into the wine -- it is still very nice to look at. Highly recommended
Great form, function AND price!
I grew up around wine and realize how much difference decanting can make. Most "company" reviews will tell you that decanting is great for old wines for aeration and containing sediment but why I am such a big decanting fanatic is that it can greatly enliven the flavor and body of those "young" wines that fit the budget a little better.
Sure, this isn't high end crystal, but it still serves its purpose in an attractive manner and you don't have to worry so much about dropping it (as long as it's empty!).
Considered rating four instead of five stars, but only because it isn't the magnum size (which holds two bottles of that favorite red).
So what's in a glass
Adding this decanter to your wine accessories may very well save you a bundle. It can improve the taste of less expensive wines.
It has long been my habit to experiment with various types of wines at various prices, usually side by side. Generally I let the wine breathe in the bottle for a bit, then a bit more in the glass. I had found many of the "Oak" california wines a bit disappointing in particular because of the sharpness in the initial taste.
I purchased this decanter mainly to have a more attractive means of serving wine to guests. The decanter met that objective admirably but more importantly it improved the taste of the first wines I tried in it. I went back an purchased some of the wines I had previously dismissed and found that the decanter really does take the edge off making the wine more supple and smooth.
Its not all good news. In some instances the wine did not improve and in fact became thin and lack some of its previous life. I also noticed immediately (being a fanatic for not mixing wines) that if I was sampling several wines that it took a long while for the decanter to dry (and no use trying to wipe it out due to its shape). Thus you are somewhat limited to what you can decant at one setting (one decanter, one wine).
That being said I am contemplating buying a couple more so that I can continue my side by side examinations of wines and decant them all equally. If you buy one I hope you enjoy.
