Fun sound, even better live
This album is more of a 3 1/2 stars than a four star, but they're definitely a four or five star live show. The songs aren't exactly deep, but music doesn't always have to be deep to be enjoyable.

Their debut is a twelve song infusion of rapid pop with a hint of blues that allows me to listen and enjoy with a little less guilt involved. Its fun to dance to, fun to sing a long with. I'm genuinely surprised these guys haven't gotten more play and publicity - they have all the makings for a mainstream hit; pop hooks and good looks.

Fun Fact: The lead singer was in The Push Kings (whose albums can be found on Amazon) with his older brother and two other guys. I personally liked them. Just drawing a comparison here: Everybody Else still keeps pop as their overriding influence. However, they utilize the blues-tuned voice the lead possesses, creating an album that stretches into a different area of sound. Basically, the voices of the two bands sound similar (the two being brothers), but are used differently to achieve (quite vastly, in my opinion) different sounds. And Everybody Else is leaps and bounds more produced than Push Kings albums.

Standout tracks include "In Memoriam", "Born to Do", "Rich Girls, Poor Girls", and "Button for Punishment" (a nice acoustic number). All in all I like and often listen to ten of the tracks and the other two ("longest hour" and "makeup") aren't terrible, I just don't care for them.

I own live tracks and have seen them live and greatly recommend their show and any live tracks you can get a hold of - you won't be dissapointed by their level of talent and energy.

Indie sunshine on a cloudy day
"Everybody Else" proves that "indie/alternative" rock need not be brooding, naval gazing, overly earnest and pretentious. Their debut disc ROCKS and makes you feel good, too! Stand out songs include: "Meat Market,' "Born to Do," "Rich Girls, Poor Girls" and, well, how can I choose? They're all good and will remind you why you love rock and roll.

Young People CAN write great songs!
Just when I thought there was no hope for the younger generation writing any pop tunes that are musicially worthwhile, here comes EVERYBODY ELSE.

First up, let me say that I'm an older music dude. I've been around through enough decades of music to see the good and the bad. I do remember a time, where listening to the radio made you feel GOOD. Not depressed.

This is music that makes you feel good! I think that's important. Is it deep, life-changing music, filled with helpful hints of how we can all have peace? No.

Is it heavy, brooding, angry music, pissed-off at the MAN? No.

Do we really need another cookie-cutter Alt-Rock band that write songs that pretty much all sound the same? No.

Are Everybody Else the PERFECT music group, who are brilliant and musical geniuses? No. BUT, at least they are writing catchy, classic music that you can REMEMBER, when you're walking around, or in the shower. That's something. (Tried to sing a 50-Cent ditty in the shower, lately?)

I'd say that EE has done their music history homework, and have actually heard of The Raspberries, The Beatles, and a myriad of great pop bands that most 23-year olds have never heard of.

Are EE retro? Definitely.
Is their music enjoyable? Definitely.

You can use all the put-downs you want: "Teddy Bear-music", "Teeny-Bopper Music", "Lightweight", etc. Truth is, that I'd rather play this than a million Eminem, Nickelback, or Black Eyed Peas' CDs.

Music is subjective. What one person loves, another is bound to hate.

BUT, if you enjoy classic, well-written pop tunes - the kind you heard so long ago, and loved --- you will really enjoy "Everybody Else".

Trust me.
