The Blind Side: Evolution of a GameThe Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis
Buy new: $8.97 / Used from: $7.87
Michael Lewis is brilliant once again. I liked this even more than Moneyball. More a profile of the relationship between poverty and sports than a true sports book. Phenomenally well written. Make this your next purchase! 5/5 STARS
Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair GameMoneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis
Buy new: $10.04 / Used from: $1.48
One of the greatest and most misunderstood baseball books of all time. In order for small market teams to compete with large market teams, Lewis shows how the Oakland A’s used statistical analysis to find undervalued statistics to sign unwanted rookies and quietly effective veterans for bottom dollar. Lewis's writing style brings what could have been a dry subject to life brilliantly. 5/5 STARS
ESPN: The Uncensored HistoryESPN: The Uncensored History by Michael Freeman
Buy new: $12.92 / Used from: $2.13
There's no question that Freeman focuses a good chunk of the book on the various troubles ESPN has encountered especially in regards to its poor treatment of women and minorities. For anyone who has every been curious about how an idea that no one thought could work quickly became the most dominant sports outlet in the world, this book's for you. 4/5 STARS
God Save the Fan: How Preening Sportscasters, Athletes Who Speak in the Third Person, and the Occasional Convicted Quarterback Have Taken the Fun Out of Sports (And How We Can Get It Back)God Save the Fan: How Preening Sportscasters, Athletes Who Speak in the Third Person, and the Occasional Convicted Quarterback Have Taken the Fun Out of Sports (And How We Can Get It Back) by Will Leitch
Buy new: $18.96 / Used from: $0.04
Though at times repetitive, the overall message that those involved in the world of sports (athletes, broadcasters, reporters, etc.) are woefully out of touch with the common fan is right on the money. Provides a framework for the larger discussion about sports blogs. Leitch shows how blogs have an ability to humanize athletes in a way the mainstream media cannot or will not. 4.5/5 STARS
