Customer Reviews
PROBABLY should be a 5.
Very nice for the $$. Excellent definition for mono. Nowhere near 3D surround, but with the volume set at a comfortable conversation level while near the speaker, we could still make out plenty of detail 30 feet away, (and by a pool pump no less). Excellent range through brick walls. Good range on the remote. Got it today and am ordering another now. Will try stereo and dual mono to see what's best, then I'll update my review. Only complaint is "sub"woofer. But I'm a bass player and drummer, so I REALLY dig low end. I boosted the lows on Winamp's eq, turned down the volume a tad, and the low end became pretty passable for me. The bright blue l.e.d. is soothing. Hope it doesn't draw bugs. VERY pleased at this price. Only other questions are will same transmitter run multiple speakers? If so, will one transmitter allow setting the speakers to left or right, or is it just mono? And, will one remote control multiple speakers? We'll know in a couple of days. Searched hard for a better price. (MSRP is $200.) Most were $15-$20 higher. Someone had it for $280!! I found a few cheaper, at most after shipping was $8 lower. Now certainly no offense intended, but they were companies I would probably never have occasion to use again. The ease and proven dependability of Amazon is most worth it. (Here's the aforementioned update.) After going stereo, the sound was even better, but the range decreased significantly. I didn't want to fool with tech support. I have NO patience. So I got an audio extension cable, moved the transmitter and speakers about 15 feet closer.... problem solved. PEACE!!
Beats 900MHz Hands Down
Having previously owned two sets of wireless 900 MHz speakers (both using plug-in adapter and one also battery operated) these speakers are heads above the 900 MHz option. I haven't had them long enough to comment on the battery life, but the sound is soooo much better. This is especially true if you enjoy the bass end of the spectrum.
Most impressive is the ability of the speakers to lock in on a frequency and then deliver uninterrupted sound. No popping or dropping in-and-out of the frequency as with previous speakers. I am thrilled with the portability and the ease of connecting to an mp3 player, using your own standard cable. The sound delivered from my hookup (cord provided) to my stereo system is very good, both in the house and outside. It also doesn't seem to matter if you are using the adapter or the batteries.
The only limits are in the range and the volume. Loudness will not rattle the neighbors, but if your source is turned up enough, it's more than I need, even with the mp3. The range is not as good as advertised, but it does go through walls and the distance is acceptable. You'll easily be able to tell if you are too far from the source, with the speakers going into silence for several seconds at a time. I move it about 8-10 ft. closer and have great reception.
Happy with this system.
This system isn't as loud as you might want to Party Like a Rock Star, but it delivers enough sound to keep you rocking the party. It's not a thumping bass, but I love this little system. Lot's of people over for the fourth and all summer by our pool. I didn't want another summer of continually messing with CD's, jumping up to change the radio channel when commercials came on (I hate commercials!), and trying to keep up with everyone's musical tastes. I also was tired of messing with large boomboxes that are so heavy to carry.
Over the 4th weekend, I successfully streamed music from my iphone, XM radio on my computer, CDs in my computer, [...]; Itunes playlists, movie DVDs in my computer, etc. I love that you don't have to have your expensive phones/mp3s out by the pool and they can stay safely inside out of the heat and a bunch of wet people handling them.
The wireless feature worked great. If the song started cutting in and out, I just moved the unit a little closer to the house, and it worked great.
I was able to make up large playlists ahead of time, and voila, relax and enjoy, rather than constantly trying to DJ the party.
I created mixes that I thought would have something for everyone, and didn't have one complaint. In fact, everyone agreed that it was a very cool unit! Party guests with their own mp3 player can run their playlists as well.
I also used the unit to play some relaxing music from a CD in my computer to listen to while taking a bath. Before this, for me to hear it in the bathroom, the sound volume on the computer had to be so high that it disturbed anyone trying to watch TV, etc.
I did run it occasionally on battery, but for the most part played it with the unit plugged in to electric. But it's nice to know you can operate it where there is no power plug.
It is a tad pricey, but the overall package seems worth it to me.
The manufacturer should discount the second speaker when purchased with a first. I contacted the manufacturer about adding a second wireless speaker, and they recommended buying a second unit, as they said other wireless speakers may not work with it. I may consider that at sometime in the future, but for this year, I'm happy with my small, efficient, ultra portable DJ machine :-).
