This book is a direct sequel to Ice Queen and is not intended to be a stand-alone title. Some stories can't be contained between the covers of just one book. In Ice Queen, Tyler helped Mistress Marguerite fulfill the mentoring requirement The Zone club imposes on all its Dominant members, to learn about BDSM from the submissive's perspective. Though Marguerite is one of The Zone's most sought-after Mistresses, Tyler is convinced she is a "switch", a closet submissive. But the truth that is revealed is more remarkable than that. As he begins to unravel the complex and terrible layers of her past, Tyler must do what he's never been willing to do before. Open up his own soul, offering Marguerite his own dark places in order to help them both heal. Only then will they be able to surrender to a force stronger even than The Zone's most powerful Master and Mistress a force that can bind them together forever.

The battle between Marguerite and Tyler from ICE QUEEN was just too powerful to contain within one book.
Some stories are best told in stages - allowing the reader time to absorb the richness of the characters and the events that will be imbedded in our memories. Tyler and Marguerite's story is just too intense to be held between the pages of one book. These Dommes commanded two books, and they were absolutely right in doing so. MIRROR OF MY SOUL is the continuation of Tyler and Marguerite's story from ICE QUEEN.
Have you ever heard that old adage "That which does not kill us, makes us stronger?" Marguerite is living proof of that statement. Having endured years of abuse as a child, in order to survive and remain sane she insists on control and thrives on the simplicity of routines - whether it's yoga or a tea ceremony. Until Tyler forced his way into her life, she'd been able to curb the need to touch people beyond normal social contact
Tyler has skeletons in his closet as well, but nowhere near as earth shattering as what he soon learns about Marguerite's past. Tyler's cracked through her icy exterior, discovered the vulnerable woman beneath, and he is determined to never let her get away from him. He's seen the scars on her body, but the emotional ones have him worried.
Tied down, and at Marguerite's mercy, Tyler proves himself to be her Dominant. It's a fact that Marguerite bitterly fought against within her own mind and Tyler had been forced to prove to her the only way that he knew how - by letting her try to dominate him. Even knowing the truth, she still tries pushing Tyler away, to keep him at an emotional distance. Of course, he's not going to allow her the time to build up the mental barrier to keep him out. Because she fled The Zone without him, Tyler decided to wait at her home for her to return to have an honest discussion about their relationship. She'd never be able to deny him and Tyler has learned to read her body language enough to know that while she desperately wants him, she won't allow herself to admit to this weakness. It's while he's alone in her bedroom, exploring her personal space, that he comes across a discovery that horrifies and enrages him - in order to find sexual satisfaction, Marguerite engages in autoerotic asphyxiation. A dangerous practice that could result in her death if done improperly. Petrified for her, Tyler demands that she quit doing this to herself and prays that she will obey him. If he's going to save his `Angel' before she self destructs, he's going to need answers and for that, he will have to delve into Marguerite's past. Will he be strong enough to withstand hearing about the horror that Marguerite had endured?
MIRROR OF MY SOUL has touched me in such a way that I know I'll never forget the characters. The events of Marguerite's life and the way they have molded her into this powerful presence in the universe are both horrifying and fascinating. Despite everything, Marguerite made herself a better person, a protector of others, and genuinely cares about the well being of those around her. Tyler's been through his own share of horrifying events and that alone helps him to understand some of what Marguerite's going through but it's not enough and he does seek help when needed. It takes a strong man to admit when he needs help with the woman he loves and he does it so openly and honestly that he's perfect for Marguerite. On a more personal note, I'm thrilled that Ms. Hill spent some time mentioning the dangers of autoerotic asphyxiation. It's not commonly talked about, or spoken of only in whispers but it's a practice that does kill and definitely needed to be addressed! Kudos Ms. Hill, you did a beautiful job fulfilling my every expectation with MIRROR OF MY SOUL, sequel to ICE QUEEN and I hope to see even more books in this series.

I cried
This story is the conclusion of the Ice Queen by the same author, and is not meant as a stand-alone book, taking place immediately after the events that closed the Ice Queen. Tyler order the overhead screen closed and then goes about the process of trying to console Margeurite while at the same time getting her to acknowledge what they both know about their relationship. But by now the painful gates to Marguerites past are fully opened. Working with a social worker, Tyler discovers that Marguerite is an obsessive-compulsive personality, who, because of the horrors of her past, might not ever be able to fully live a balanced life. The social worker helps Tyler to understand that Marguerite has developed a coping mechanism, involving rituals and a very controlled lifestyle, and with those barriers broken down, now her ability to cope is compromised. This is not something that Tyler wants to hear. He has to relinguish some control himself and let Marguerite, a damaged personality, sort things out. Matters get definitely worse when Marguerites father is released from jail after serving his 20 year prison sentence, and comes for her to 'finish it'.
This is one of the most moving stories I have read in a long time, certainly not one I expected in the back list from Elora's Cave - known for it's erotic content. I read both the Ice Queen and MofMS three times back to back - I couldn't get enough of the moving story, from the first moments to its conclusion. Yes, there is a lot of erotic sexual context - it is rated X for Extreme. But it is also a beautifully rendered story, touching, poetic, and fulfilling. I highly recommend it!
Lovin' Me Some Bondage!
'Mirror To My Soul' starts mere sentences after 'Ice Queen' ends. Marguerite has just completed a session as Mistress over Tyler which has ended with Tyler bruised and bloody. Although he acted as Marguerite's submissive and bares the wounds of his decision, not once during the entire time was he not in control. Tyler's eyes continuously proved with every locked stare that he was and always would be Marguerite's Master.
The psychological breakdown that Marguerite experiences and of which was ultimately the catalyst to the physical abuse she inflicted upon Tyler, of course leaves her body, mind, and spirit extremely fragile. The shame of her actions propels her to run and seek solace at the sight of her long dead brother's death.
Meanwhile, Tyler uses his connections to discover the truth of Marguerite's past thinking that if he knew the events that shaped her life than perhaps he can discover the key to opening her heart and soul to his dominance. Thus Ms. Hill reveals the absolute horror of a past that Marguerite endured from eight to fourteen years old in the hands of her mind-broken father. Reader be warned that the author does nothing to sugar-coat or gloss over any of the terrible and gruesome aspects of Marguerite's past. The final deaths of her mother and brother are so heartbreaking that I find no words at all to convey the emotion I felt over reading their demise. After reading how Marguerite survived, my admiration for her grew tenfold as well as my utter awe of her strength and her ability to love even when she feels incapable of the emotion or even deserving.
Tyler is not without his own ghosts and certain triggers set of his post traumatic stress syndrome leaving him vulnerable and scared that if Marguerite doesn't always witness his strength than she will run once again. Yet, in a beautiful scene, Marguerite offers her substantial strength to Tyler and for once he has some one he can truly lean on and unburden his soul to. I believe that this trait is what convinces Marguerite that she is and can be human. Up until this point she has been a bystander in life, a non-being just operating day to day and Tyler is able to crash through this mode and show his need for her and her need for him.
When Marguerite finally acknowledges her submission to Tyler and calls him Master, the sexual scenes are explosive with extreme BDSM and passionate romance. The eroticism was powerful and I enjoyed seeing characters re-appear from her previous novels in the 'Nature of Desire' series. There is an especially sweet moment between Mac and Violet from 'Natural Law' that made me want to pick up the novel and read about how their love came to be all over again.
Yet even after all these subsequent breakthroughs, Tyler and Marguerite suffer more with the return of her father as his sickness threatens to kill once again. Yet when these two finally receive their much deserved happy ending, I closed this book with a contented sigh knowing that while neither may be truly healed yet, they are certainly on the right track with their love for each other guiding their way.
