A good basic all-around rotary cutter. They have cool colorful OLFA ones too.

Of all the rules on the market, these OmniGRIP are a hands-down favorite. They have a bit of something tacky on the back which helps them stay in place when you're cutting. I have lots of different sizes, but this is the one that I use almost daily.

My favorite big scissors. Can be sharpened again and again. I recommend investing in a good pair of scissorys, and Ginghers are nice. I also bought the matching 4" matching Cheetah ones.

Get the inexpensive shop lights that can be hung with thin chain. Add full spectrum bulbs and voila, great light, very cheap! I strung four of them together for my studio.
