Customer Reviews
Excellent Book!
The reviews I read at Woodturning Online and in Woodturning magazine were correct. I've now read Bill's book for the third time and I'm still discovering nuggets of useful information.
over priced not as good as it should be.
This book is not that great for a beginner due to the fact that its not nearly as detailed as i would have liked and it seems to jump over a lot of topics with simply not enough detail a beginner needs. The price is high you can easily find comparable books probably 2 books for the same price. I bought this book due to good reviews i found on some turning sites. But lets see their are other books that are better simply because they are more detailed or maybe better priced. one such book "The Art of Segmented Wood Turning" by Malcomlm Tibbets check out tibbets book there is probably no better book for beginners. or You can buy Richard Raffans book Turning its got a lot of pictures and its actually 3 of raffans books in 1. There are a few more excellent books as well look around and you will find better.
Great book for beginners!
I have found that this is the most comphrensive book that we've seen on the topic of segmented woodturning! It covers all the basics of making segmented turning from design, tools, materials and their selection, and goes through making up the rings to building them out and turning them. The book also discusses finishing your project, documenting it and even provides a photo essay on the entire process on one of the segmented projects.
Not to leave you wanting, Bill also provides you with project plans for 8 segmented turnings and instructions on how to make his version of a reliable mitre sled.
