HUGE Lamp but effective3
We have a Bright Light near a reading chair that I love...once you use one of these types of lights, you just don't go back to regular lamps w/bulbs. You can read for hours with no eye srain which is wonderful! I decided to get one of these to use by the bed table and thought the clamp would be ideal to save up some space....when it arrived I was a bit surprised! I guess I wasn't really paying attention to the measurements. This is a very large clamp on light (it looked more like a small oar in the box!)but after setting it up(very easy) and using it in bed while reading, it actually works out fine for what we needed. If you want something more 'dainty' or less clinical looking you might want to opt for something much smaller...but it does give out good natural light and it is adjustable which helps....not much difference between the two light settings however which I was hoping for a bigger change. Overall a good lamp and you can't go wrong with this type of light for your eyes, just make sure you have the room for it!

Great light, if you can position it4
I'm a big fan of Verilux lighting: Their floor lamp is just about perfect, and all of their lamps use terrific full-spectrum, energy-efficient bulbs that are ideal for reading. I use this one as a reading lamp next to my bed; I like having a light directly above me, so the long neck is a plus. There are just two flaws: First, as a minor point, the difference between the brighter setting and the dimmer setting is negligible; I'd rather have two distinct light levels than one (though both are plenty bright for reading).

The other flaw is that getting this lamp into a desirable position is much more of a challenge than it should be. The joints just don't have as much resistance as they should, which makes it possible for the lamp to collapse if it's unbalanced. Also, the clamp isn't as tight as it could be, no matter how much I tighten it. Still, unless you need to reposition your lamp frequently, this isn't a major drawback. I'd still recommend this lamp, as long as you have a definite idea of where you want to put it--and keep it there.

Great lamp except for fragile base3
I have bought two of these and love everything about them except that, after a couple of years, the plastic enclosure at the base is coming apart -- apparently from the pressure applied when adjusting the lamp up and down. The light is excellent and the lamps are highly adjustable. But, on one lamp the plastic base enclosure is splitting at the seams -- I've put duct tape on it to keep it together, but it looks ugly. On the other, the same plastic enclosure is cracking at the back. I use them on a daily basis and adjust them fairly often, but I haven't abused them.
