A Techno Ballad That Suprises4
"Rainy Monday," is the attempt for Shiny Toy Guns to get their techno flavor into the mainstream, with this techno ballad, that is both obvious and original at the same time. Yes, that may be contradictory, but the song itself is contradictory. The verses aren't that great, the chorus pretty good. This song could also be called experimental, in that it all seems new, with some parts working, some parts don't.

The verses and the beginning try to make the most of what it has, and ends up ok. The pre-chorus is weak, before going full out techno for the chorus. Along with the technoness of the song, there's also some tinge of emotion, as I believe the song is about a breakup, so it could be considered a modern/techno ballad. And as strange as that may sound, it strangely works. However, the falsetto in the song does not work, and drags the song down to the ground whenever it's around.

So overall, an original unoriginal techno ballad that's not afraid to experiment and take chances, whether it ends up well, or falls flat. It's your call, but it's not to hear a song like this every once in a while.
