Award-winning author Stephen Bly weaves the tale of a pair of contemporary cowboys on a quest across the West. As a boy in Wyoming, Hap Bowman
fell in love with a girl named
Juanita. Ever since, he's experienced
nothing but failure and misfortune.
Laramie Majors--quiet,
reserved, and patient to a fault--
hasn't left Hap's side since they
became rodeo partners right out of
college. Now, after spending most
of his adult life looking for Juanita,
Hap wants to do one last big
search that will take them all over
the Southwest before he admits defeat.
Together these two cowpokes
find themselves reluctant heroes in
a series of misadventures as they
travel the West, all the while thinking
that Hap's--or Laramie's--true love may be in the
next town.

Heros and Cowboys
Cowboys are alive and well and intriguing in Stephen Bly's new novel. Open this book for a blend of rough and tumble cowboys, rodeos, and romance. The characters are rich and entertaining.
Hap Bowman fell in love when he was just a young cowpoke. He met her once and made it his life's ambition to search and find his Juanita. Following that course, he only dates women named Juanita. This obsession causes chaos and adventure for he and his partner Laramie Majors.
Laramie meets Hap on one of the ill-fated dates with a Juanita. The two join forces and travel rodeo circuits and cattle herding from Wyoming across the Mexican border.
Their journey takes them from catastrophe into adventure and even love. Open this book and meet some of the most interesting characters as you enjoy the life of modern-day cowboys and their search for love. Does Hap ever find his Juanita? Does Laramie find love of his own during the search? Read the book to find out. You will thoroughly enjoy the ride
Have you seen Juanita?
Cowboy Hap Bowman is on a quest to find the girl he fell in love with one afternoon when he was twelve years old. All he really has to go on is that her name is Juanita, she lived within sight of the Rio Grande, and she sports a unique birthmark: the silhouette of a petite horse's head under her right ear.
Joining Hap on his journey is his friend and roping partner, Laramie Majors. Along the way they are sidetracked by surprising adventures which would make Butch and Sundance jealous, some grub no one in their right minds would eat, and a long string of Juanitas.
If you are looking for an escape from your routine, One Step Over the Border could be just the diversion you seek. Although the story sometimes skips forward in time, author Stephen Bly catches the reader up quickly. There are enough twists in the story line to make this tale fun and somewhat unpredictable.
Of note: One Step Over the Border is definitely a cross-over book. Although written by a Christian author, this book will appeal to a larger, even secular, audience. I think you will find any faith elements to be subtle and to fit both story and characters perfectly without turning off any potential non-Christian readers. It also crosses gender lines, being a book appreciated and enjoyed by men and women alike. Anyone who likes to cheer for the good guys will enjoy their time spent with Hap and Laramie.
