Customer Reviews

You won't get close to 700 with this but can be useful for a brief review3
This book has the most potential if you are very short on time (2-3 weeks) or if you are re-taking GMAT and put most emphasis on one section but still want to refresh the other one with minimal time investment. I would not recommend this book to GMAT novices who have a few months and can actually take advantage of more serious materials.

As with any Cliff's product, you are getting a very condensed and stripped down version of a prep book, about 150 pages of material and 65 pages of tests (compare that to the 650 page behemoth from Kaplan or Manhattan GMAT Set of 8 Strategy Guides. The absolute strength is that you cut out a lot of fluff and it is down to the point. The weakness is that there are no second chances and very minimal time is spent on each topic.

* I felt the RC section was actually useful
* In general it is helpful to have a full section overview on just one page vs 15 (good after you have been exposed to lengthy strategy descriptions, not before)
* CR and SC struggle as you need a lot more space to cover them well
* Quant depends on your level - was good for a quick review and even had a tiny section on Probability
* There are 2 tests in the book (Diagnostic test upfront and another at the back)
* I am reviewing the early release of the book (you will notice that book availability is not until 1/7/2010) and the online supplement is not yet available. it's expected to have vocabulary and sentence correction quizzes. Don't get carried away with vocabulary - GMAC actually ran some research and there is no correlation between vocabulary practice and GMAT score - keep that in mind
* The book does mention the free practice tests available from GMAC (GMATPrep) but fails to mention Official Guide, which I think is a disservice to those not familiar with the GMAT
* Plenty of practice questions for this size of a book, so a great resource for retakers or to run through questions.

Hope my review helps with your buying decision. Please reply to this review if you have any specific questions - I respond FAST.
Good luck on the GMAT and with your MBA pursuit
