Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
The author is a shamanic healer who journeys on behalf of her clients in order to facilitate healing. A book on what to do after one has been through a healing crisis is badly needed; unfortunately, this isn't it. While this is what Ingerman purports to do here she misses the mark entirely, treating the reader to self-indulgent accounts from her own private journal as well as those of her clients in a tone usually reserved for young children. She exhorts us to take responsibility for ourselves and the future but fails to provide any guidelines as to how to go about it. The work is also repetitive and badly written and edited. Not recommended.

From Booklist
Ingerman is a strong voice against psychic fragmentation--a woman here introduces herself as "myself, my thirteen-year-old, and my five-year-old"--as well as for strong personal integration and integrity. A sort of shamanic Wendy Kaminer (I'm Dysfunctional, You're Dysfunctional, 1992), Ingerman pushes her readers to question New Age orthodoxy and to find their own routes to wholeness. Although not as polished as her earlier Soul Retrieval (1991), this book is still meaty enough to appeal to readers interested in contemporary shamanism. Especially interesting are chapters on wholeness in the business world and dealing with enmeshed relationships. Pat Monaghan

Customer Reviews

Inspiring and enlightening...5
Sandra Ingerman has good credentials in both the scientific as well as the metaphysical areas of studies. When I first heard about some of the very things she works with, I was fairly skeptical. After becoming more involved, I realized that she deals with effective and interesting methods of healing one's mind, body, and soul. I had started reading this book when I received a call that my mother was in the hospital 4 hours away. It was December in the Rockies and not a good time to be driving anywhere. I ended up spending a month with my brother and sister at our mother's, visiting her in the hospital each day. Since only 2 people were allowed in the room at one time, I would read this book while awaiting my turn. This book was so comforting for me. I was able to relate it to the situation in which I found myself at that time and it was a tremendous help for me during one of the most traumatic, emotional times of my life. I do highly recommend the book and its author. One doesn't have to believe everything that is written in any book, but when a book has so many wonderful insights for the reader to take with them to help them in their everyday existence, it has my blessings!!

Inspirational!5
Sandra Ingerman is an impeccable practitioner and teacher who very clearly describes in this book the folloow up clearing and healing work necessary to seal in the benefits of the life-saving technique she describes in Soul Retrieval: Mending the Fragmented Self. Personally, this work saved my life. When I read these books I was suffering from CFIDS and fibromyalgia. These books and the subsequent training helped me fill with life force energy and become a whole, vibrant human being again. Enough so, that I resumed my counseling and healing practice with vigor and authored two books on self-healing. I couldn't have done this without Ms. Ingerman's Soul Retrieval book. As a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 25 years I know through experience that talk therapy only goes so far. There is a spiritual and an energetic component to our woundings, and therefore our healing, that must be addressed for complete healing to occur. Soul Retrieval is my "healing bible" and I use this technique everyday in my practice to help people become whole and reclaim their life. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in having soul retrieval work done, and for those interested in becoming a shamanic practitioner. As an author of several books on shamanism and energy healing, Seeing in the Dark: Claim Your Own Shamanic Power Now and in the Coming Age, Energy for Life: Connect with the Source (Next Step), and Inner Power: Six Techniques for Increased Energy & Self-Healing I appreciate Sandra's clear explanations and case descriptions. I have had the honor of studying with Sandra and can assure you that she is a beautiful soul and a loving human who's life's work is to ease pain and suffering. I am grateful to her for offering such unconditional service to the world.
