STARTING POINT FOR JOURNEY BACK TO OPTIMAL HEALTH5
After years of chasing down mysterious symptoms, and not finding relief through traditional medicine in spite of numerous specialty referrals, I found Dr. Cohan's book "the natural hormone makeover". I knew after reading the Introduction on page 1 that she had something different to offer to discover the root of my health problems. As Dr. Cohen discusses in Step 1 of her hormone makeover, traditional doctors convinced me my symptoms were a natural part of aging. I blindly submitted to their expertise and accepted their diagnosis until my symptoms became unbearable. Dr. Cohan's insights and advice motivated me to research hormone balance. Her book provides excellent information and practical advice for women, particularly those of us over 40, who want to live their lives at an optimal level. Dr. Cohen explains the relationship between health and hormones along with her suggested ten-step hormone makeover. She provides information on symptoms and advice on lab tests. She emphasizes the need to find the right doctor and support team. Armed with her book, I was able to stand up to the doctors offering the diagnosis that my symptoms were part of aging and demand more than prescriptions of pain pills and anti-depressants that worsened my health rather than improved it. Motivated by Dr. Cohen's advice, I eventually found a Naturopathic Physician who ordered the more accurate saliva hormone tests (which contradicted the traditional blood tests) and began a course of hormone therapy to overcome estrogen dominance. While it is too early to report all symptoms are resolved, it is a relief to better understand the relationship between my health and hormones and I feel confident I am on the right track to optimal health. Dr. Cohan also recommended reading "Ancient Healing for Modern Women" by Zhao, Xiaolan which also helped with my journey toward optimal health. Dr. Cohan's book is a great starting point to gain a better understanding of hormone balance and is helpful to find the right medical support to regain optimal health. It includes information about natural HRT, thyroid function, adrenal function and more. Every woman who wishes to understand her body and take action to improve her health should read it. It is appropriate for women of all ages, not just menopausal women.

Best information on hormones5
I found this book more useful than other books specifically about hormones in perimenopause and menopause because it doesn't just look at sex hormones but rather looks at all of our hormones and their interrelationships. Based on the approach of the brilliant Belgian endocrinologist, Dr. Thierry Hertoghe, Dr. Phuli's book is filled with information that helped me to determine what hormones were deficient and how to safely rebalance and support them. I especially appreciate the fact that this book empowered me to take charge of my own health and to find health care professionals to work with me whose approaches were compatible with mine. I've had tremendous success dealing with the effects of low sex, thyroid, and adrenal hormones (fatigue, brain fog, hot flashes, etc). Let's just say I was a mess, and now I feel great.
