7 stars!! great book!!!!
Thank you Mr. James May for your research into Stevia, and for not letting the FDA intimidate you into giving up your quest to bring this wonderful sweetener to the U.S. from the jungles of Paraguay. The book goes into the very INTERESTING history of how Mr. May came to find Stevia, and finally bring it here. It is a plant that is 200 times sweeter than sugar, and has a glycemic index of '0', that means it doesn't stimulate your pancreas to produce insulin to level out your blood glucose, which causes cortisol to pour into your blood stream and result in weight gain. It is safe for Diabetics, and it is actually good for you, unlike Splenda and Nutrasweet, which are neuro-excitotoxins, causing seizures, headaches, blindness and on and on. Also, it's reported that people that use Splenda and Nutrasweet are putting on weight, thats because the GLYCEMIC INDEX on these toxins is "80"!!!!!!!!! Sugar is only '70', no wonder people are getting fatter the more diet coke they're drinking!!! Go to Mr Mays website, www.sweetleaf.com and it gives you the run down on the G. index. You can also buy the Stevia there. He goes under the brand name of Wisdom of the Ancients, when you buy his, you know you're not getting junk, or immitations but only 'good for you' stevia. You can also hear his fascinating interview on thepowerhour.com, located in the archives. Dave and Joyce have a 3 hour daily talk show with cutting-edge guests that keep you informed and healthy. I couldn't put the book down.
Editor, editor where art thou?
This book could have benefitted from a ruthless editor who would have deleted the huge amount of text in christian religious allegory, the political punditry, the hyperbolic descriptions of this man's war with "the beast" and the juvenile, self-congratulatory prose. This book might have been about 50 pages instead of 278.
If James May wrote this book to gain popular and, ultimately, legal support for Stevia he should have hired a professional writer. If a second edition is planned, I'd advise him to consider doing just that because writing for the reader isn't one of his strong points.
I gave it two stars, instead of one, because there is some good information in there.
I loved this sweet story and the adventure behind it!
I have to say the part about the book I enjoyed the most was the personal struggle that James May had to overcome to get to where he is today. I loved reading all about the travels and findings of the sweet treat stevia. Thank-you James on writing such an informative, educational, inspiring story about reaching health and balance. It's time more people take matters into their own hands and stop sitting back while huge corporations take them for a ride. Read, research and find what it is that you beleive in and form your own opinion instead of just taking someone else's word. We need more educators in this world who are willing to put it all on the line to better this world by offering healthy, natural alternatives to the toxic, chemical, food coloring, preservative packed garbage that is on the shelves today. Great book, great writing, and great information. I am a huge stevia fan and love learning all about the the latest health buzz, I will be looking forward to another edition or future writings by James May.
