Customer Reviews
Knock offs, disappointing
If you enjoy listening to the pop-versions of Disney songs being sung over the credits of various movies (you know, the ones with lots of synthesizers and vocalists hamming the crap out of the song) then you should enjoy this CD. Don't get this if you're looking for the actual songs from the movies. I'm very curious to hear what conversation happened in the marketing room to make this 'collection' a reality. "You know that collection of CLASSIC LOVE SONGS we have that are BELOVED BY OUR FANS?" "Yeah, yeah, let's bring in your 14 year old cousin and have them sing them all, and then sell them!"
Not all original artists, but still a great collection
The collection includes many of the romantic ballads from Disney's animated features. Most of the songs can be heard on the original films soundtracks, so consider this the "best of" set.
The one problem is that some songs are not preformed by the original artists. There doesn't seem to be an explanation, but I have a guess. I noticed that most of the re-recordings are for the older Disney films, including "Dumbo" and "Snow White". I imagine these were re-created to give these older songs the same stereo sound and fidelity as the newer songs.
Different artists for songs featured some more recent films, such as in "The Lion King" and "Tarzan". I imagine this could be because of legal rights or royalties connected to those original artists. Either way, the producer went to great lengths to find vocal matches for the original performers. Devout Disney fans will notice the difference, since there are slight variances in vocal inflections. Children won't be able to tell. Even though I don't think this is a very important issue, it would be nice if this was noted on the packaging somewhere.
Despite the different artists, the over all feeling of the collection is pretty solid. If you're a fan of Disney musicals, then this set will probably have you signing along in no time.
Horrible Collection--Disney Should Be Ashamed!
This is a poorly produced compilation album that combines the original recordings of songs from "Pocahontas," "Aladdin," and "Beauty and the Beast," with cheap studio knockoffs.
Seriously, there is no reason for this, since Disney seems to be able to release the original recordings of all the rest of its music pretty regularly. Take one listen to the horrifically bad singing on "When You Wish Upon a Star" and you'll wish you'd never heard the guy sing.
Avoid this at all costs, and buy the real thing instead.
