Product Description

In these astounding meditations on the true Christian nature of the scriptures, Tomberg shows how the entire Bible tells the history of the Christ being; describes the cosmic and earthly preparations for the Mystery of Golgotha, its significance and results for humanity and the world as a whole; shows the central role of the Sophia being and her relationship to the Christ, to the Holy Spirit, to the Disciples and Pentecost, and to humanity as a whole; and imagines the Grail nature of the Christ's involvement in earthly history.

At last, these profound studies are available in a single volume. Long out of print, this newly revised text includes Valentin Tomberg's anthroposophic meditations on the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Apocalypse. The appendix contains his unfinished work, "The Four Sacrifices of Christ."

Here are all of Valentin Tomberg's essential anthroposophic works on the scriptures together for the first time. This is an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of Rudolf Steiner's spiritual scientific approach to esoteric Christianity as revealed by a close, meditative reading of the Bible—from Genesis to the Revelation of St. John.

About the Author
Valentin Tomberg was born in St. Petersberg in 1900 into a Lutheran family. He entered the Russian Christian esoteric tradition at an early age, strongly influenced by Vladimir Soloviev and a personal experience of the Sophia at a Cathedral in Holland. Under the auspices of the Anthroposophical society (which he left around 1940) he lectured in Holland and England, and wrote works based on his esoteric understanding of the Bible and Christianity. He later converted to Catholicism, resided in England, and worked for the BBC while devoting his time to meditation and writing. He died in Majorca in 1973.

Awesome... but esoteric!5
One thing to keep in mind: The author of these amazing studies did not want them to be republished. They were intended for readers with a very specific knowledge and training, and this particular audience ended up rejecting, or becoming enemies over, this teaching. So, in his older days, the author felt it was just as well they be forgotten. This ought to be mentioned, as the author only was in his thirties as he was inspired to write them down. Having said that, I must confess: The study of this material has indeed brought suffering into my life as well... but a good one. Blind eyes opened to the light will burn. True insights increase true suffering. But it also increases the capacity to live with it, and even to let it soften the heart. So beware of this book. It is contaminated with truth less diluted than we are used to. Its only protection is that it presupposes a good familiarity with the works of Rudolf Steiner. This has, in the past, not proven to be enough. And the future? Well, what we can predict we cannot change. And what we can change, we cannot predict. Aristotle said that. I predict it will be said again. The path to real truth is strewn with real thorns, no book will change that fact. On the contrary, some books will awaken us to it.
