Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
"Simply put, Agility is the most fun you can share with your dog," the author asserts, and those who have jumped on the bandwagon for this fast-growing sport will enthusiastically agree. Racing against the clock, dogs must, among many challenging obstacles, clear a series of hurdles, dash through tunnels and up and down see-saws, and weave in and out of a line of closely spaced poles. Simmons-Moake provides a solid introduction to the sport, while husband Gordon's detailed appendix on obstacle construction is extremely useful to those just starting out. Public libraries, especially those serving communities with active dog obedience clubs, should consider. Areas with established agility clubs will prefer Julie Daniels's Enjoying Dog Agility (Doral, 1991), which offers excellent step-by-step training instructions (including puppy training and agility for children) as well as creative ideas for obstacles; it refers readers to the U.S. Dog Agility Association for information on obstacle construction. Customer Reviews
Easy to read and understand, great ideas for competitions.
I found this book easy to read and understand. Ideas for building your own jumps and where to go to find pre-made obstacles. Introduces the dog without scaring it to every manner of jumps you might find in the ring. Also gives the handler a clear and definite way to deal with dogs who run out or jump. Talks about how the handler should position her/himself to the dog and the basic obedience commands needed and/or used. A must for everyone interested in the sport as well as those who have excitable dogs and need a way to channel that energy.
This is a great book for starting out in agility!!!!
This was a great book. I bught for my dog to give him something to do. He was so smart and it seemed a waste brain power not to teach something challenging. This book is easy to understand and even tells how to build ALL of the equipment. You HAVE to buy this book if you want to train agility. It's great.
A must for agility training!
This book is great! Detailed enough for the advanced, yet easy enough to understand for the beginner. Detailed instructions on building your own jumps, see-saws, weave poles, etc. make the book even better!
