Editorial Reviews
From the Publisher
Shetland Sheepdogs excel in versatility. Shetland Sheepdogs at Work is both a celebration of notable Sheltie achievements and a biography of how their owners and trainers guided them to the top. One thing stands out—a novice with a good Sheltie knows no bounds in what he or she can achieve in performance events!
If they did it, you can do it too! This book is a great start. Learn what makes a gook performance dog, how to solve training problems and get your dog past a learning plateau, and how to find or breed your own working Sheltie.
From the Author
It is my hope that this book will inspire other Sheltie fanciers and owners to offer their dogs a full, challenging life by giving them rewarding jobs to do and the mental stimulation they crave. A Sheltie that is working is truly happy and fulfilled.
About the Author
Carriera owned and trained Shelties for over 20 years.
Customer Reviews
More than just a "pretty" breed...
This book goes far beyond the idea that Shelties are "just pretty, fluffy dogs." Joanne highlights the intelligence and workability of this delightful breed-she covers almost all areas of dog performance sports that Shelties excel in: Obedience, Agility, Herding, Flyball, Tracking, Search & Rescue, Therapy dogs (and she may be working on another book! ) and not only covers top Shelties in each of these areas, but interviews the owners/handlers/breeders for their training tips and their dogs'lineage. Great info on how to get started in each venue, great photos, and a great tribute to a hardy, versatile, smart AND beautful breed!
