Understanding the left
The underpinnings of the political left seem to mystify the typical right winger. To them, the left simply defies logic.
Perhaps that's because those on the right are typically religiously motivated by seeking the carrot/pleasure (heaven) and avoiding the stick/pain (hell).
But the left doesn't believe in heaven or hell. They seek an idealistic world of equals, i.e. egalitarianism, and the substitute motivating factor employed by the leaders of the left is envy.
This is a must read if you are a serious student of politics: right, left, or libertarian...or if you just want to understand what the consensus considers the nastiest of all vices (that's why it's a great motivator as well as a great destroyer).
