Have Faith
Author Dyanne Davis penned a timely fiction story that gives us some insight into what the men and women, who are serving in the Iraq war and wars before, have to deal with when returning home after a tour in combat.
Eric Jackson served three tours in Iraq, the last one for an entire year, but it did not stop him from missing his wife, Gabrielle. At a crucial time in combat, he found himself reminiscing about the love of his life, and the things he missed about their relationship. A split second later his troop had to react to a truck sent to bomb them, leaving in its wake the dead bodies of some of the men Eric was responsible for under his command.
The moment Eric was waiting for finally arrived, and he was able to go home to Gabrielle and his parents, but his life was far from normal. Gabrielle realized that after each tour Eric did in Iraq, he became more and more distant and silent. Eric's hunger for their lovemaking waned soon after he returned, and the things he dealt with mentally, having been so close to death, covered their relationship with doubt and mistrust in word and deed. Eric's inability to share what he experienced in Iraq only put a deeper rift in his marriage to Gabrielle.
To add insult to injury, the harder Eric and Gabrielle tried to put their lives back together, the more they lost control. With all of this going on, the surprise and promise of the impending birth of Gabrielle's baby should have been a joyous one. How did Gabrielle conceive? Have faith? Is there really such a thing as a miracle?
Through it all, the voice of God spoke to both Eric and Gabrielle, and encouraged them to have faith in the midst of their situation and allow Him to work the good plans He had for their lives. The scripture from Jeremiah 29:11 comes to mind: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."
I enjoyed reading Another Man's Baby because it helped me to understand the mental anguish the men and women who serve our country in war must face daily, and the trials they endure once they return stateside.
I recommend this book to anyone who has a son, daughter and husband, or is in a relationship with someone who has been or is in Iraq, and any other country during this time of war.

Another Man's Baby
While on tour of duty in Iraq, the only thing that kept Lt. Eric
Jackson sanity intact was the thought of returning home to Gabrielle,
his beloved wife, and to grant her wish of starting their family.
However, things did not work out as planned. For one, the sickening
horrors of the war changed Eric. And, more importantly, Eric could
not give his wife the only thing that she has ever wanted - a baby -
due to the fact that he was found sterile. So, when Gabi turned up
pregnant, Eric was deeply devastated because he knew the baby wasn't
his. Will Eric be able to forgive his wife and raise some other man's
child? Or has a miracle happened and his wife was telling the truth
about him being the father of their child?
I found Another Man's Baby to be a real tearjerker, so keep your
tissues handy because you will need them. This story was largely
based on miscommunication and revenge. From start to finish, I was on
a constant emotional roller coaster. I felt the pain and aguish that
both Eric and Gabi felt as a couple with the possibly of having a
failed marriage after so many years of happy blissfulness. Although,
I knew that the love between them was strong, there were times where I
wanted to scream at them both for being so pigheaded. Eric felt the
need to protect his wife from his misery of serving in the war. He
did this by refusing to open up to Gabi and spending the majority of
his time hanging out in bars. Damaging evidence that suggested
infidelity was found against Eric by Gabi, which in turn caused her to
seek vengeance by making Eric believe that she was having an affair
also. But Eric and Gabi soon learned that payback wasn't all that it
was cracked up to be because both ended up hurt from all the lies and
deceit. What a mess! Throughout this book, I was greatly rooting for
Eric and Gabi and hoping that they would be able to dig their way back
up to the happiness they once shared. All in all, Another Man's Baby
was very touching story and a joy read.

Where Is Your Faith???
This story gave me an insight into how men and women of the military that have been in a war zone have to deal with mentally when coming home to their families. In this story Eric feels guilt for himself and anger towards his wife because he was thinking of her when his troops were ambushed and he survived and some of his men didn't. Instead of talking to her about it, he did everything he could to push her away. When she finally had enough after thinking he was having affair plus the fact that he decided that he didn't want a baby, she plans revenge. He also finds out that he is sterile and feels even less than a man and continues to treat his wife badly knowing that she thinks he is having an affair. Well, Gabi's revenge back fires despite the fact that she didn't sleep with her old boyfriend and she becomes pregnant. No one believes that Eric is the father not even his parents who she loves like they are her real parents. I want be a spoiler and tell the outcome but this story is a real tear jerker. Keep your tissues close while reading this story. Only Gabi's faith will get her through this trial as it did when she prayed that her husband made it back home safely. Will her faith be enough for her and Eric to survive this trial?
