Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Grade 1-3-This title seems to repeat a lot of the material in Dianne MacMillan's book of the same name (Enslow, 1997). However, the many color illustrations here are an improvement, and a recipe for gumbo and a craft project have been added. Mardi Gras in New Orleans is sketchily covered, as are other sites and countries that also celebrate this holiday. The information is basic and brief and the text is rather repetitive and pedestrian. There is mention of the Krewe of Aphrodite and a picture labeled Venus next to it, with no indication that both goddesses are the same. The favorite throws for Mardi Gras are referred to as coins and not "doubloons," the traditional name. Suzanne Coil's Mardi Gras! (Macmillan, 1994; o.p.) is better written and more informative, but Landau's book is one of the few geared to this audience.
