From the Publisher
Guided imagery has been recognized by the medical community since the early 1920’s as a successful adjunct to modern medical treatment. From cancer and pain management centers to sports performance programs and university medical schools, guided imagery is being incorporated into healing programs worldwide.

From AudioFile
The mind-body connection in health and healing are hardly new topics in audiobooks. In fact, the field is littered with uninformed, unlicensed self-made experts of various camps trying to fill the public's need for help. When a label with a history of good material and production values like Sounds True releases a title, one can be fairly sure it's worth listening to. Here Dr. Rossman, while lacking in vocal technique and audio charm, conveys a satisfying amount of factual and anecdotal material. Though one can certainly prime the subconscious prior to surgery with the good doctor's help, more skilled and inspiring conveyors are out there. Customer Reviews
This CD really helped with my surgery
I got this CD a couple of weeks before my laparoscopic gall bladder surgery. I was very anxious and dreading the surgery. I started practicing with it twice a day, and my anxiety lessened considerably. I also felt better toward the doctors, hospital, etc. On the day of surgery I was able to be relaxed. I used it before and after surgery. The surgeon said my bleeding was very little. I was able to do fine without using any painkillers after the surgery. I was ok with using them if necessary, I just didn't need them. Every time the pain started, I'd listen to the tape and feel much better. The first day I listened to it a lot, then less the next day. I healed very quickly.
I had already done similar relaxation with my dentist, who was trained in it, so it was easy for me to pick up on.
I didn't expect it to help as much as it did. I'd definitely use this again if I needed surgery. Well worth the cost.
Excellent Product to Help Reduce Anxiety and Worry Prior to Surgery
I was facing henia repair sugery. When facing proceedures like this, I tend to have a fair amount of anxiety - the "what if" kind. Dr. Rossman takes you through a deep relaxation technique, and then focuses on the positive benefits of surgery. He talks the skill of your surgical team, and about your body and its healing mechanisms.
I got this CD thee weeks before my surgery and played it almost every day.
I had a much more positive attitude and greatly reduced anxiety. The operation went well, and I only needed two pain pills afterwards. I can't say enough good things about this CD!
Use The Power of Your Mind
Deep relaxation, combined with guided imagery, can help you prepare and heal before and after surgery.
Dr. Martin Rossman, M.D., begins this CD with an explanation of the benefits of guided imagery. He explains that research shows that those who use guided imagery prior to surgery have better outcomes, faster healing, and even less loss of blood than those who do not use these methods.
In soothing tones, he then presents 3 exercises (about 25 minutes each) that will help you:
1) Prepare for a successful surgery
2) Prepare on the day of surgery
3) Heal well after surgery.
Surgery is stressful on the body and the psyche. This relaxing CD can help you use the power of your mind to visualize healing and a good outcome. And what we can imagine, we can often produce.
