From the Author
It is our hope that this story is shared with all families, cousins and classmates, friends and neighbors. The more knowledge we share will hopefully broaden the minds and hearts of others so that our children will know love from all and grow up into a world that values and respects diversity and an individual's uniqueness.

From the Inside Flap
On a bright and starry night when wishes and dreams come true, a beautiful little baby was born who looked a lot like you.

This new little one was about to take a journey through the birthday hospital with a thought, "What Are Parents?"

Her search for the answer begins as she starts down a hallway to find the answer. Each room she passes reveals a different type of family, adoption, a single mom, grandparents as parents, two moms or two dads; illustrating a variety in culture and religion. Each family teaches the baby the meaning of the word "PARENTS".

Playfully rhyming words and beautifully illustrated pictures lead a child through a journey to discovering diversity while learning to accept their unique family. The book teaches children that there are all types of families in this world and what makes a parent is someone who loves, teaches, sings, laughs, has faith and is devoted to their child.

Customer Reviews

A great family book for all!5
I love this book! The book is really what the word parent is all about! The words are filled with love and the pictures is wonderfully illustrated. The first time I read the book I cried. You can tell that the authors was speaking from their heart also the book is really fun to ready over and over again because it rhymes. When I purchased this book my daughter who is 3yrs would not let it go. She slept with it, watch T.V with it, and wanted the book to go in the bath with her. I recommend this book for all types of families not just families with two moms. I'm looking forward to reading more books from the Authors Kyme and Susan Fox-Lee.

This is the meaning of the word Parent.5
I'm a grandmother who is raising my grandchildren and I love the way the authors included all families. Parent is a word that describes "love", someone who is willing to do all the things that is necessary to raise and care for a child. I believe that the author's book really talks about the issue on a very basic level that children can understand and not feel like they are alone in being in a non-tradional but loving family.

honest, endearing and sweet portroyal5
As a child of two moms myself, there were few resources that positively modeled my family situation. "What Are Parents?" is an honest, endearing and sweet portroyal of what it means to be in all kinds of families that are uniquely special. I only wish that I could have seen this book when I was growing up. Kyme and Susan Fox-Lee are to be applauded for their heart warming portrayal of families of millions of kids who the media denies exposure or acknowledgement. I hope that "What Are Parents?" can reach and touch all the different kinds of families it joyously portrays!
