This lens feels nice and has smooth focus & zoom controls. AF speed is OK, not too slow. Spot-on AF accuracy. One of the best price/performance midrange zoom lens in it's competition if you're not a full-time, paid pro. It's on my camera 85% of the time..

At 15mm less than the 105, this Tamron puts you right at the sweet spot for portrait photography! Basically 2 lenses in 1!

The extra cash gets you: VR, better contrast, lightning-fast AF, tank-like build quality (& weight), internal focusing & a quick AF to MF override by turning the focus knob. One note is to be careful with this lens as the front element isn't nearly as protected as in the Tamron. Use the lens hood when possible & a protective filter to avoid damage.
