Product Description

Deep in the woods, in the middle of winter, the last thing the Lazybones family wants to do is step outside their cabin. When they complain about being chilly, it's up to the cat to go out and get them some firewood."Look what the cat dragged in!" they exclaim. Still the Lazybones refuse to move a muscle, so the little cat has to take care of their hunger and boredom, too. The kitty gets fed up with their selfish whining, and he drags the Lazybones into the middle of trouble—earning himself some well-deserved peace and quiet at last.

From Booklist
K-Gr. 3. Hogg gives an old-time expression a comical makeover. In the thick of winter the Lazybone cabin is cold. Grandma Lazybone rocks, Daddy scratches, Mama stares, and Junior twiddles his thumbs, but nary a Lazybone will go for wood. Instead, they eye the cat sleeping on the floor, and talk about how its different parts might keep them warm. Recognizing the hints, the cat sneaks outside, returning with a sled piled high with firewood. Three more times, threats from the Lazybones send the cat scurrying outdoors--to drag in take-out food, toys and games, and a load of money. But when Junior declares, "Let's get a dog," the cat rebels, stomping outside yet again but returning this time with a woodsman, a chef, a toy maker, a banker, and a policeman, who hauls the Lazybones off to jail--leaving the cat to sleep on the rug. The animated scenes put the right spin on the absurdity, with vivid hues of orange and blue cranking up the energy and a perspective that cleverly places the cat in the forefront of all the raucous action. Silly, entertaining feline fun. Julie Cummins

Cats5
Great book for any cat lover

author of "Hobo Finds A Home"

A Great Book!5
This is a wonderful, fun story with a clever feline hero! The Lazybones come up with some very mean ideas of what to use their cat for, but the cat comes out on top in the end. My kids think the story and the pictures are hilarious and love to point out all the little extras the pictures too.

A Charming conniving cat...3
gets revenge in this clever book. While forced to do chores for the mean spirited (but humorously depicted) Lazybones family, their little cat is planning a devious, much deserved, revenge. When the revenge comes knocking at the door it is unexpected, which perfectly sets up the Lazybones.
Gary Hogg's story is a little on the light side, but the sounds he envokes with his careful use of language will enthrall the reader, or listener. Mike Wohnoutka's illustrations are lively and give the young reader plenty of bright color to look at.
The cat seems to be the protagonist it did seem like many of the descriptors were focused around the family, however, this is a humerous book and you will have fun tracking down Wohnoutka's characters from other books in the illustrations.
