Customer Reviews

Every parent having to live on a fixed income should read5
Yes, You Can... Afford To Raise A Family by Sam Goller is an extremely practical and "parent friendly" money management guide to raising kids without running out of cash. Individual chapters deftly address the importance of determining expense priorities; tracking where the money goes; balancing income earned against the cost of working (and determining what a salary is really worth), getting good bargains; dealing with debt and staying out of debt; saving and investing with an eye for long-term prosperity; keeping emergency money reserves; preparing for the cost of college, and so much more. Yes, You Can... Afford To Raise A Family is a highly accessible, down-to-earth, comprehensive compendium of financial advice that every parent having to live on a fixed income should read.

Not just for Parents5
Yes You Can ... Afford to Raise a Family takes a hard look at finances. Sam Goller gives many wonderful suggestions on how to save money better, to watch spending, and how to invest money for your future. Written for parents, this book would benefit anyone looking to improve their financial future. Filled with charts and blank pages, Goller asks you to look inside to best manage your money. He encourages parents to talk to their kids about money. You must make sure that when spending money, you mimic the values you are trying to teach your kids.

Yes You Can ... Afford to Raise a Family includes tips from other parents. Sections are filled with their words on how they saved money and taught their children about money. With two sections filled with many chapters, Goller divides the book about general financial concerns and then frequently found problems. The beginning looks at the cost of raising a child, from the first year and through college. The first part also is concerned about prioritizing money and what it means to you as a couple. Helpful hints are included to teach your children. A chapter is included about whether having a job is worth the money it pays. There is a lot of valuable information on saving and investing. The second section is helpful about children. It talks about gift giving, the value of work, how to have cheap fun, and college. Goller also talks about retirement and life insurance.

Easily read, Yes You Can ... Afford to Raise a Family is a good book for any couple trying to figure out a way to get a head of their finances. Though not a parent (or planning on being one any time soon), I found the information very helpful as I decide to move out on my own. The tips that are included in Goller's book are incredible. Imaging shopping, without your credit cards. What do you really need? Questions are answered about how to save money and look to your future. The sections on children will be helpful when the time comes.

I do not believe the author knows what he is talking about. Not everyone has the temperament for child raising. The boarding of children means that there will be extra demands placed on the parents plus extra expenses. Also I don't think the author takes into account that more money has to be earned by one or both parents. There is security, food, clothing, amenities, lodging, transportation, education. I think the author should rethink what makes a good family and the exorbitant costs that this endeavor entails. It is far more expensive to raise a family, than to stable a set of horses. I think the words of the author is pure garbage.
