Editorial Reviews
Review
Her story will remind you of the rainbow you see at the end of a long summer storm. She gives new meaning to the old adage - It ain't over until the fat lady sings. Holter describes her life as ironic, comparing it to a Shakespearean play, where the character tries to escape his fate, only to be pushed closer to it. The offspring of an Irish mother and a Jamaican father, she's had to deal with racism, sexism, and sexual abuse throughout her lifetime. She has rallied for AIDS awareness, been the voice for the indifferent, and the misunderstood, and put her energy and talent into educating the public regarding safer sex. Jessica Holter, AKA Ghetto Girl Blue is a combination and product of the experiences she has had, the pain she has endured, and the survival skills she has learned was imperative to maintain. Far from your ordinary poet, wife, mother, performer, and entrepreneur. Ghetto Girl Blue encompasses the wisdom of your grandmother, the cutting edge of the woman next door, and the confidence of a mature, seasoned woman who knows what she desires, and boldly goes after it. And if all that weren't enough, she conceived and founded the concept of the Punany Project, hence, The Punany Poets were born in 1995. She has been featured on HBO's Real Sex Documentary as well as BET & Playboy TV. Her words are piercing, and often times provide shock value. So strap yourself in, sit back for the ride, and bask in the world of the sister better known as Ghetto Girl Blue. --Yvonne Curtis, Upscale Magazine
