I was very surprised at the extremely personal and intimate passages of Manchester. He weaves his experiences as a Marine with the narrative of the various operations, as he returns to the battlefields later in life.

Loaded with photos, maps, and the play-by-play of frontline experiences. As close to multimedia that a book can get.

Sloan describes the battle from multiple perspectives: air, ground, naval, kamikaze, US, and Japanese. Incorporates strategy, battle plans with descriptions of the daily life and death. I didn't want to put it down.

An interesting story of this tremendous battle.

Another perspective on Guadacanal. A bit ambitious, Hammel seems to add too many short vignettes about a dogfight here and there. But not a bad read.

Very good detail, Beevor unveils quite a bit about both sides. Not as much personal storytelling as I like, but this is THE book to gain an appreciation of this siege.

A compelling juxtaposition of a young Kamikaze pilot and his final destiny, USS Bunker Hill. Plenty of detail and survivors stories. Mixes good storytelling with technical..I now know much more about ops aboard a carrier. The background on life in a Kamikaze training camp was insightful. Other reviews note factual errors but I'll look past them for a great story, and this is one.

A very good recount of how FDR and Eleanor managed the war and the home front. A good companion which helps keep the overseas battles in perspective.

Worth the read, but Bradley starts to share his politics. Good insights into how Japanese officers behaved toward their men and their captives.

This is more of a story about Vera Atkins than about espionage, but it provides keen insights into how Special Ops Executive was run in London as well as on the ground. The stories of her agents and what happened to them upon capture are worth the time to read this.

I struggled a bit with Clarks writing style. A comprehensive book, but be patient while reading.

A decent recount of the experiences of two subs on a collision course of events.

Not a great book, but a good one, telling the tale of a Special Ops Exec in France, forming and leading his group behind enemy lines. A difficult task to be sure.

A good history of the walkup to the Valkyrie, and a good insight into what made Stauffenberg the man that he was. A bit too much about Germany culture and a German poet..
