About the Author
An accomplished social entrepreneur with expertise in health care, labor issues and public policy, Cheryl Dorsey was named President of Echoing Green in May 2002. She is the first Echoing Green Fellow to lead this global nonprofit, which has awarded more than $25 million in start-up capital to nearly 400 social entrepreneurs worldwide since 1987. Cheryl received her education at Harvard-Radcliffe Colleges where she earned a degree in history and science in 1985. In 1992, while training to be a pediatrician at Harvard Medical School, she received an Echoing Green Fellowship. With it, she launched the Family Van, a community-based mobile health unit that provides basic health care and outreach services to at-risk residents of inner-city Boston neighborhoods. As a public policy innovator, Cheryl served as a White House Fellow from 1997-1998, serving as Special Assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Labor, advising the Clinton Administration on health care and other issues. She was later named Special Assistant to the Director of the Women's Bureau of the U.S. Labor Department, where she helped develop family-friendly workplace policies and spearheaded the labor secretary s pay equity initiative. Cheryl serves on the Board of Directors for Coro New York Leadership Center and Grant Makers for Effective Organizations, and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Action Tank for Social Entrepreneurs, a member of the John F. Kennedy School of Government's Visiting Committee, and a 2006 Henry Crown Fellow.

Lara Galinsky is the Vice President of Strategy at Echoing Green. Lara's portfolio consists of marketing and communications, evaluation, thought leadership, alliances, strategic planning and internal capacity building. Most recently, Lara worked as Director of National Programs at Do Something, Inc., working with over 20,000 educators to inspire 4 million young people to get involved in their communities and develop vital leadership skills. Useful and inspiring book
The social entrepreneurship organization Echoing Green has just published a book designed to inspire young people to consider careers in the nonprofit sector. The book, Be Bold, tells the stories of 12 nonprofit leaders who typify the core elements of being bold: experiencing a moment of obligation (committing to what you feel is important), having the gall to think big, trying new and untested approaches to solving problems, and seeing possibilities where others may not. The book has a useful set of worksheets that can help you figure out what being bold means to you, and how to put it into action.

A must have! Amazing book
This book is inspirational! It documents the lives of twelve outstanding leaders in the nonprofit sector and shows the reader that boldness is in all of us. I found it to be a satisfying read that motivated me to examine myself and realize that I have the potential to create social change.

I would recommend this as a career guide to anyone interested in the non profit sector, human rights or social justice issues.
