Each journey starts with a single step, and in this book, renowned psychic Sylvia Browne leads you on the path to the perfection of your soul. The unique program that she presents in this book involves an eight-step process that will help you: (1) realize your essence, (2) identify your patterns, (3) utilize past-life memories to your advantage, (4) become more psychic, (5) develop spiritual wealth, (6) find the right relationships, (7) deal with the death of loved ones and cope with divorce, and (8) maintain a state of wellness. Along with her always-practical advice, Sylvia encourages you to engage in personal-growth writing exercises, and to enhance your life with healing affirmations and soothing meditations.
Known for her candor and wit, Sylvia also shares her personal experiences along the road to understanding the nature of God and His plan for all of us. She explains that the challenges we encounter are not meant as punishments, but as learning opportunities for us to improve ourselves and the world around us. When we release guilt and fear, we make room for joy and fulfillment. As Sylvia says, by completing just one step a week, you will—through your own introspection—become more spiritual, which naturally leads to being more joyful, more at peace—and even more psychic.

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
In this slim, friendly book, renowned psychic Browne offers an eight-step program that she says will set readers working toward the perfection of their souls and will bring them joy, fulfillment and renewed spirituality. Each of her steps takes a week to complete and incorporates a written exercise and a daily meditation. Browne believes that the "one innate purpose" of the soul is "to perfect itself and learn for God," and her program is imbued with a gentle, nondenominational sort of spirituality. There are frequent references to God and occasional references to Biblical passages, but Browne is more concerned with helping readers find their own spirituality, unlock memories from past their lives, become more psychic, maintain good relationships and keep themselves "in a state of wellness" than she is in preaching scripture. Throughout the book, she shares details of her own experiences dealing with guilt, financial stress and the loss of loved ones. And she offers some traditional, common sense advice on working toward one’s goals. For example, in a chapter on breaking bad habits, she suggests that readers spend some time figuring out how their habits started and come up with positive subsititutions—i.e., "If I get to the point where I’m about to scream at my children, I’ll go into the bathroom and be silent for one minute." In another, she argues that the best thing to do after a divorce is to get over it, not creep into a hole, because God will make life well again. Vegetarians may make take issue with Browne’s declaration that "when you cut a plant, it screams," but overall hers is a useful, Christian introduction to living life better.

Release guilt and fear
This is the second book that I have read that stressed the release of guilt and fear. The first Book was An Encounter With A Prophet. While Brown comes from a Christian viewpoint, Lewis comes from an anti-dogma, spiritual viewpoint. Lewis maintains it is difficult to release guilt and fear while continuing to believe Christian dogma. Brown ignores the dogma and presents some of the same concepts.
Regardless of their different approaches it seems that they agree on the need to release both guilt and fear.
Try both books one should work for you.
Operation Introspection
I agree...NO ONE steals from self-help books. Afterall, they are written with the intention of helping anyone who wishes.
I have read a number of Sylvia's books and though I can't say I've enjoyed EVERY one of them, this one resonnates with me. It's a little book written in Sylvia's, matter-of-fact style. She writes as if she were speaking to you and I like this. It is so straight forward...impossible to misunderstand or misinterpret where she is going.
Each chapter has written exercises to go along with it. It is my belief that if you DO follow what she tells you to do with these exercises...you WILL find out a lot about who you are and reinforce to yourself who you are NOT. so many of us have had labels lumped upon us through the years...we've accepted things because they may have come from our parents or other loved ones but in reality...we all know in our hearts what our true essences are. This book will help uncover them.
I tend to read a whole book before I go back and take it chapter by chapter but I would suggest to others, to follow her instructions to the letter. She hasn't gotten to where she is today by "stealing" from other people's ideas. Yes, a lot of what she does say is common sense...but I don't see a LOT of authors offering it.
I rate this book high on my list and will recommend it to the members of my site. It's inexpensive and if you are like me and need something to do at night OTHER than watch TV...try it. You'll make astonishing discoveries. I promise!
Winning at Life.
Building on the backdrop of her own life and that of a spiritualist psychic medium Browne teaches readers the importance of connecting with their higher self /god through various techniques and meditative practices. Although she references our connection with god, she does so in a non dogmatic fashion. Brownes understanding of this world and the challenges that she has personally faced and conquered, serve as reminder to the reader that we can all overcome life's difficulties by developing our spirituality and strengthening our connection with god. Her techniques and recommendations are designed to lead the reader to a higher understanding of their spiritual self in relation to this world and beyond. A well written and easy to understand book.
